  • Patent number: 8965454
Abstract: In one embodiment, an amplifier system has a tap, a delay filter, a linearized amplifier, and a hybrid combiner. The tapped portion of an input signal is amplified by the amplifier, the untapped portion of the input signal is delayed by the delay filter, and the combiner combines the resulting amplified, tapped portion and the delayed, untapped portion to generate an amplified output signal. By re-combining the delayed, untapped portion of the input signal with the amplified, tapped portion, the power of the untapped portion is not lost, and the amplifier does not have to compensate for all of the distortion that would otherwise be associated with the total output power level. Such an amplifier system is applicable, for example, in upgrading an existing GSM cell site to support both GSM communications as well as UMTS communications without degrading GSM operations.

  • Patent number: 8958754
Abstract: A signal is received from a mobile device as multiple data samples. The received signal includes a first component corresponding to a known reference signal and a second component corresponding to an unknown channel impairment or an unknown noise. A sequence of blocks is formed based on the received samples. The first component of the received signal corresponding to the reference signal is known to within a constant phase shift over each block. A plurality of function values are generated as a function of time, frequency, and phase, based on the received signal, corresponding to a plurality of times, a plurality of frequencies, and a plurality of phase sequences. A time, a frequency, and a phase sequence corresponding to an optimal value the function values are determined. The determined time is outputted as a time of arrival of the received signal.

  • Publication number: 20150042527
Abstract: In one embodiment, a sub-reflector assembly for a reflector antenna has (i) a waveguide transition at a waveguide end of the sub-reflector assembly and configured to fit within a waveguide, (ii) a dielectric radiator connected to the waveguide transition and extending both laterally and back towards the waveguide end of the sub-reflector assembly, and (iii) a sub-reflector connected to the dielectric radiator. By configuring the dielectric radiator to extend both laterally and back towards the dielectric end of the assembly, radiated energy from the waveguide is directed such that the sub-reflector assembly can be used with shallow reflector dishes (e.g., F/D ratio greater than 0.25) and still achieve sufficiently high directivity.

  • Patent number: 8953724
Abstract: Canceling narrowband interfering signals in a distributed antenna system is provided. In one aspect, a cancellation sub-system includes a decimator module, a filter, an interpolator module, and a combiner module coupled to the uplink path and a reference path in parallel with the uplink path. The reference path includes the decimator module, the filter, and the interpolator module. The decimator module decimates a reference signal sampled from an uplink signal traversing an uplink path of the remote antenna unit. Each of the uplink signal and the reference signal includes a narrowband interfering signal component. The filter generates a cancellation signal from the reference signal by attenuating the reference signal outside a frequency band that includes the interfering signal component. The interpolator module interpolates the cancellation signal to a sampling rate of the uplink signal. The combiner module can subtract the cancellation signal from the uplink signal.

  • Publication number: 20150038167
Abstract: A system and method modifies calibration data used to geo-locate a mobile station. Calibration data measured via a calibration data collection device may contain errors due to the physical limitations of the collection device and/or the collection process. Any data collection device may produce some degree of signal degradation or drop-out. Dead reckoning provides a remedy for signal drop-out, however, it often produces data results that may be unsatisfactory to perform an accurate location estimate. To ensure the integrity of the collected calibration data, a data modification and/or data replacement algorithm may be implemented to enhance the accuracy of the collected data. In addition, current collection procedures used to generate a calibration database may be laborious, time-consuming and expensive. Simplifying the test and measurement equipment needed, and the procedures for obtaining calibration data may save time and expenses.
