  • Patent number: 8938252
Abstract: A system and method modifies calibration data used to geo-locate a mobile station. Calibration data measured via a calibration data collection device may contain errors due to the physical limitations of the collection device and/or the collection process. Any data collection device may produce some degree of signal degradation or drop-out. Dead reckoning provides a remedy for signal drop-out, however, it often produces data results that may be unsatisfactory to perform an accurate location estimate. To ensure the integrity of the collected calibration data, a data modification and/or data replacement algorithm may be implemented to enhance the accuracy of the collected data. In addition, current collection procedures used to generate a calibration database may be laborious, time-consuming and expensive. Simplifying the test and measurement equipment needed, and the procedures for obtaining calibration data may save time and expenses.

  • Publication number: 20150019979
Abstract: A user interface for a distributed antenna system (DAS) is provided. When executed by a processor, a signal distribution engine receives information about signals transported by the DAS and components of the DAS. The signal engine generates a signal set assignment user interface including a list of signals transported by the DAS and a signal set formation area for receiving a signal set. The signal engine also generates a signal distribution user interface that includes representations of signal sets, hardware components, and associations between hardware components. In response to receiving a request to associate the signal set with a specified hardware component, a command is output to configure a signal path so that signals in the signal set are provided to the specified hardware component.

  • Patent number: 8909133
Abstract: A system and method of monitoring a signal repeating device in a wireless communication system is provided. An operational noise measurement is obtained by measuring a noise value outside of a bandwidth of a first element, but within a bandwidth of a second, subsequent element in a signal path of the device. The operational noise measurement is alternatively obtained by tuning an input band of the device to shift the input band partially or completely outside of a bandwidth of a first element to create an open band or by suppressing an input of an antenna and measuring noise within the open bandwidth of the device. A stored parameter is retrieved and compared to the measured operational noise. Alternatively, a leakage signal of the device may be received at a signal receiver and compared to a reference. The reference is a function of elements of the device in a leakage path of the leakage signal.

  • Patent number: 8908753
Abstract: A calibration sub-system for calibrating a unit of a distributed antenna system is provided. The calibration sub-system includes a signal generator, a receiver, and a processor. The signal generator provides test signals to a communication path that are generated based on modification schemes for an in-phase signal component (“I component”) or a quadrature signal component (“Q component”). The receiver receives output signals generated from test signals. The processor determines output power values for an undesirable signal component of the output signals. Each output power value is a Taylor series function or a polynomial function of a respective modification scheme for the I or Q component of the respective test signal. The processor determines an optimal modification scheme for the I or Q component that minimizes an output power of the undesirable signal component. An output value of the function is minimized by having the optimal modification scheme as an input.

  • Patent number: 8897813
Abstract: A method of determining the location of a mobile device in a communications network having a plurality of nodes, one of the plural nodes serving the device. Observed positioning measurements for a mobile device may be received from the serving node and uplink enhanced cell identification (E-CID) positioning measurements received from the mobile device. One or more ranges between ones of the plural nodes and the mobile device may then be determined as a function of the received observed positioning measurements and the received uplink E-CID positioning measurements. A geographic location of the mobile device may then be estimated as a function the determined one or more ranges.

  • Publication number: 20140328245
Abstract: A communication system and method for extending coverage of a base transceiver station. The communication system includes processing circuitry that receives a communication signal over a wireless channel. The received communication signal is processed through an adaptable equalizer to reduce noise, distortion, interference, and frequency errors. In another aspect of the invention, a frequency of a reference signal in the communication system is adjusted to compensate for frequency errors between the communication system and the source of the communication signal. The equalized and frequency adjusted communication signal is then retransmitted into an extended coverage area. Wireless coverage is thereby provided between a base transceiver station and a mobile device in the extended coverage area.
