Abstract: A method of monitoring an element in wireless communication system is provided. An operational noise measurement is obtained by measuring a noise value outside of a bandwidth of a first device, but within a bandwidth of a second, subsequent device. The operational noise measurement is alternatively obtained by tuning an input band of the element to shift the input band partially or completely outside of a bandwidth of a first device to create an open band or by suppressing an input of the antenna and measuring noise within the open bandwidth of the element of the wireless communication network. A stored parameter is retrieved and compared to the measured operational noise. Alternatively, a leakage signal of the element may be received at a signal receiver and compared to a reference. The reference is a function of components of the wireless communication system in a leakage path of the leakage signal.

  • Patent number: 7999730
Abstract: A system and method of providing satellite assistance data to a mobile device without using a reference network. A request may be transmitted to a plurality of mobile device requesting that ones of the devices transmit a portion of a navigation data message received from one or more satellites to a location determining system. Navigation data message portions may be recorded and transmitted from the ones of the plural mobile devices to the location determining system. These navigation data message portions may then be compiled by the location determining system, and assistance data provided to a mobile device as a function of the compiled navigation data message portions.

  • Patent number: 7986266
Abstract: A system and method for determining one or more satellites in view of a wireless device. A request for satellite assistance data may be received from a requesting entity and a reference location determined as a function of the request. A set of satellites may be determined as a function of the reference location. Subsequent cached information may be determined for each satellite in the set of satellites if cached information already existing for each satellite in the set of satellites has been cached for greater than a predetermined time period. This subsequent cached information may then replace the previously existing cached information for the reference location. One or more satellites in view of the wireless device may then be determined as a function of either the subsequent cached information or previously existing cached information, and assistance data may be provided to the requesting entity to determine an estimated location of the wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20110173230
Abstract: A method of providing a location of a target device to an application implementing location based services includes receiving a request for a location resource from the target device at a first location server and generating the location resource in response to the request, where an external domain to which the location resource is attributed corresponds to a second location server different from the first location server. The location resource is provided to the target device, the target device providing the location resource to the application, which subsequently requests the location of the target device from the second location server using the location resource. A query is received from the second location server requesting the location of the target device, the query including the location resource. The target device is identified using the location resource.

  • Publication number: 20110171912
Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a mobile device in a communications network having one or more proximity sensors. A request to locate the mobile device may be received and at least one of the proximity sensors tasked to receive a signal transmission from the mobile device. One or more signal characteristics of the signal transmission from the mobile device may be measured by each tasked proximity sensor, and a location of the mobile device determined as a function of the measured characteristics. This may be accomplished by associating a fixed location with each tasked proximity sensor, and then determining the location of the mobile device as a function of one of the associated fixed locations.

  • Publication number: 20110169691
Abstract: A method implemented by an assisted Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) server determines a position of a GNSS receiver. The method includes sending a request for measurement information to the GNSS receiver at a first time and receiving the measurement information from the GNSS receiver in response to the request at a second time, where the measurement information includes position measurement data and a corresponding measured time based on satellite signals received by the GNSS receiver. The measured time is determined to be erroneous when it is outside an accurate time range determined based on at least one of the first time and the second time. A substitute time is identified and the position of the GNSS receiver is determined based on the substitute time when the measured time is erroneous.

  • Patent number: 7974633
Abstract: A system and method for determining a position of a wireless mobile device. The method comprising the steps of providing one base station in communication with the mobile device, providing a sensor spaced apart a known distance from the base station, and determining the range between the mobile device and the base station. The time of arrival of a signal transmitted from the mobile device is measured at the sensor and a set of coordinates is calculated for the mobile device relative to the sensor as a function of the known distance from the sensor to the base station, the range between the mobile device and the base station, an estimate of base station transmission timing relative to a time source, and the time of arrival. One of the set of coordinates may then be chosen to thereby determine a position of the mobile device relative to the sensor.
