  • Patent number: 7692601
Abstract: The invention relates in part to a folded dipole having a dipole axis and a pair of arms which together have a profile which is concave on one side and convex on the other when viewed along the dipole axis. The dipoles may be arranged as a dipole box around a central region, typically in a generally circular or square configuration. Further elements may be placed in the dipole box or in the gaps between dipole boxes. The antenna may be a single-band antenna, or a multi-band antenna with the further elements operating in a different frequency band to the dipole boxes. The further elements may be concentric dipole boxes. The invention is particularly suited for use in a cellular base station panel antenna. A novel coaxial to microstrip transition is also described.

  • Patent number: 7672359
Abstract: A received analog spread-spectrum signal is selectively attenuated prior to digitization, where the amount of attenuation is based on the amplitude of the digitized signal before the digitized signal is filtered to compensate for interference that may exist in the received signal. By selectively attenuating the signal only when the digitized signal is relatively large, the receiver can be implemented using a relatively small analog-to-digital converter (ADC) than would otherwise be the case for a particular signal processing application. Taking advantage of the signal-concentration characteristics of spread-spectrum receivers, embodiments of the present invention can be designed to operate with signal having negative signal-to-noise ratios at the A/D conversion step.

  • Patent number: 7661984
Abstract: A coaxial connector includes a clamp nut dimensioned to fit over the outer conductor, the clamp nut having threads that mate with corresponding threads on the connector body. A clamp element is positioned between the clamp nut and a leading edge of the outer conductor. The connector body having an annular wedge surface dimensioned to mate with the leading edge of the outer conductor. The threads draw the clamp nut towards the connector body, to clamp the leading edge between the clamp element and the annular wedge surface. A surface-to-surface positive stop between the clamp nut and the connector body limits the compression force to a predetermined maximum by preventing further movement of the clamp nut towards the connector body. A thread lock is engaged as the positive stop is reached; the thread lock inhibiting unthreading of the clamp nut from the connector body.

  • Patent number: 7627327
Abstract: Embodiments of a system and method are disclosed that enable geo-location of a mobile appliance (20) communicating over a frequency hopping air interface for a network overlay geolocation system having plural wireless location sensors (30). The wireless location sensors (30) include a radio receiver channel capable of receiving the forward channels of the air interface transmitted from the base station (10) to the mobile appliance (20). The network overlay geo-location system of the present disclosure monitors these forward channels and measures parameters that allow the geolocation system to synchronize with the hopping of the air interface on the reverse channel. The plurality of sensors measure an attribute of a signal on the reverse channel to thereby enable geo-location. Synchronization can also be reference to a stable system clock and the plurality of sensors may be tuned in reference to the system clock to enable measurement of the frequency hopping reverse channel.
