Abstract: A method for the production of alcohol and other bioproducts from power boiler woody biomass extract containing hemicelluloses, with or without combining extract from wood prior to Kraft cooking. The process is integrated with the host Kraft pulp mill plant process to minimize the heat loss from extracting hemicelluloses and the energy used in the process.
Abstract: The present invention provides a thermosensitive recording medium with excellent color developing sensitivity, moist heat resistance and plasticizer resistance, as well as excellent heat resistance, background coloring, light resistance and the like in the printed image. A diphenyl sulfone derivative containing a hydroxyl group on one end and an alkoxy group on the other end has a higher melting point than the one containing hydroxyl groups on both ends. As a result, the thermosensitive recording medium obtained using the diphenyl sulfone derivative as the color developing agent in the thermosensitive color developing layer has excellent heat resistance. However the color developing sensitivity of the thermosensitive recording medium generally declines simultaneously, when a color developing agent with a high melting point is ordinarily used.

Abstract: A system for drying and tempering flowing air that has been compressed to a super atmospheric level prior to treatment by the system. The system includes a precooler and reheater core and a chiller core disposed in adjacent relation for receiving flowing air serially therethrough. A moisture removal section is disposed adjacent to the chiller core for removing entrained moisture from the flowing air. The moisture removal section is defined by sidewalls. The moisture removal section has a demister core disposed therein. The demister core comprises a plurality of fins configured to create an undulating flow through the demister core. The demister core is disposed at an angle with respect to at least one of the sidewalls to create an enlarged entrance area and an enlarged exit area.
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel hydrolase, which is used when dialkyl 2-vinylcyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylate is hydrolyzed with an enzyme, so as to efficiently obtain (1S,2S)-1-alkoxycarbonyl-2-vinylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid that is useful as an intermediate for synthesizing therapeutic agents for hepatitis C. According to the present invention, there is provided a hydrolase protein, which consists of the amino acid sequence shown in any one of SEQ ID NOS. 2 to 5 and which has activity of catalyzing, at higher selectivity than the protein consisting of the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO. 1, a reaction of producing (1S,2S)-1-ethoxycarbonyl-2-vinylcyclopropanecarboxylic acid from diethyl 2-vinylcyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylate.
Abstract: A method is presented for the production of cellulosic ethanol, acetic acid and derivatives from the extract containing fibers and hemicelluloses after steam cooking of biomass in a host plant. The process is integrated with the host plant process to minimize the effect of loss of heat value from the extracted hemicelluloses and eliminate the need for the waste water treatment plant.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel method for producing (1R,2S)/(1S,2R)-1-amino-1-alkoxycarbonyl-2-vinylcyclopropane which is useful as a synthetic intermediate of therapeutic agents for hepatitis C and a synthetic intermediate thereof. According to the present invention, when a trans-2-butene derivative having a leaving group at each of the 1- and 4-positions is reacted with a malonic ester in the presence of a base, a specific amount of an alkali metal alkoxide or an alkali metal hydride is used as the base, and further a specific amount of a malonic ester is used to produce a cyclopropane diester, and further, chiral or achiral 1-amino-1-alkoxy-carbonyl-2-vinylcyclopropane and a salt thereof are synthesized using the cyclopropane diester.
Abstract: A novel bis-phosphate compound is provided which can be applied to a wide range of reactive substrates and reactions as an asymmetric reaction catalyst and can realize an asymmetric reaction affording a high yield and a high enantiomeric excess. The bis-phosphate compound has a tetraaryl skeleton represented by General Formula (1). In an asymmetric reaction, an amidodiene and an unsaturated aldehyde compound are reacted with each other in the presence of the optically active bis-phosphate compound to give an optically active amidoaldehyde. The invention allows a reaction such as an asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction to proceed efficiently, which has been difficult with conventional mono-phosphate compounds.

Abstract: The formulation of the current invention provides better deicing and anti-icing performance than commercial acetate-based deicing solutions. The performance is consistently better in all testing categories including melting, penetration, undercutting, and friction. The corrosiveness is similar to commercial deicers, which may include corrosion inhibitors. Chemical analysis reveals that a potassium acetate solution provided by the invention contains formate and lactate in the prepared deicer.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a industrially appropriate method for producing the ?-anomers of ribofuranose derivatives in a highly selective manner at a high yield. The present invention provides a method for producing ribofuranose derivatives wherein ?-anomers is precipitated from among the generated furanose derivatives by controlling the amount of a reaction reagent used and/or using a poor solvent in the acetolysis reactions of 2,3,5-tri-O-acyl-1-O-alkyl-ribofuranose and 2,3-di-O-acyl-1-O-alkyl-5-deoxy-ribofuranose.
