  • Patent number: 7121102
Abstract: A precooler/chiller/reheater (PCR) system comprising a precooler/reheater counterflow heat exchanger and a chiller counterflow heat exchanger separated by a moisture removal section. Refrigerant is flashed through a perforated distribution manifold along the plates of the chiller. Warm, moist air is precooled in the precooler/reheater heat exchanger. A manifold conveys the precooled air to the chiller heat exchanger. Chilled air exits the chiller at a low point in the system. Moisture condensed in the precooler and chiller drains into a sump that also acts to convey air into the moisture removal section. Water droplets are stripped from the airflow and drain downwards into the sump. The chilled and dried air is conveyed to the second side of the precooler/reheater heat exchanger and passes downward in counterflow to the direction of air entering the system on the first side of the heat exchanger, then exits the system ready for use as reheated, dried air.

  • Patent number: 6820773
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the controlled delivery of volatile compounds is shown for the use in the treatment of honeybee colonies for different honeybee diseases. The method delivers the volatile compounds through the use of microporous membranes. The membranes can be in the form of microporous hollow fiber membranes or microporous flat sheet membranes. The membranes allow for the controlled release of the volatile compounds by the adjustment of the exposed surface area. This allows for delivery of the effective amount of compound during different seasons of the year. In the case of hazardous compounds such as the delivery of formic acid for the treatment of honeybees for parasitic mites the exposure to the beekeeper is minimized and no handling of liquid formic acid is necessary.

  • Patent number: 6448815
Abstract: A low-voltage transmitter and receiver adapted for differential signaling via transmission lines between integrated circuits enables operation at very-high data exchange rates. Such data transmission is achieved in a manner that minimizes reflected energy and minimizes crosstalk between signals propagating over neighboring transmission lines. In achieving optimal transmission characteristics, a bridge circuit is employed to drive the signal. The bridge circuit is connected in series between a pull-up and pull-down resistance, their respective resistance values being programmable to maintain optimal communication rates and quality. The pull-up and pull-down resistors preferably comprise a bank of transistors having source-to-drain resistance values that are binary multiples of each other. The transistors are preferably coupled in parallel with each other and in parallel with a resistor, such that the transistors can be selectively activated by a binary voltage control data word.

  • Patent number: 6445253
Abstract: A voltage-controlled oscillator circuit includes a ring oscillator circuit for generating a signal having a series of pulses. The signal with the series of pulses is ac coupled to a filter circuit which converts the series of pulses into a substantially sinusoidal signal which is substantially symmetrical about the reference potential of the system. The sinusoidal signal is applied to an amplifier which converts the sinusoidal signal into a square wave. Because the square wave is generated as an amplified sine wave, it exhibits a high degree of symmetry, i.e., it has a highly accurate 50-50 duty cycle, which makes it applicable in demanding settings such as serving as a clock signal in a high-speed microprocessor system in which both rising and falling edges of the clock signal are used to synchronize events.
