  • Patent number: 11363264
Abstract: Offset values, such as Sample Adaptive Offset (SAO) values in video coding standards such as the High Efficiency Video Coding standard (HEVC), may be improved by performing calculations and operations that improve the preciseness of these values without materially affecting the signal overhead needed to transmit the more precise values. Such calculations and operations may include applying a quantization factor to a video sample and at least some of its neighbors, comparing the quantized values, and classifying the video sample as a minimum, maximum, or one of various types of edges based on the comparison. Other sample range, offset mode, and/or offset precision parameters may be calculated and transmitted with metadata to improve the precision of offset values.

  • Patent number: 11361471
Abstract: A system comprises an encoder configured to compress attribute information and/or spatial for a point cloud and/or a decoder configured to decompress compressed attribute and/or spatial information for the point cloud. To compress the attribute and/or spatial information, the encoder is configured to convert a point cloud into an image based representation. Also, the decoder is configured to generate a decompressed point cloud based on an image based representation of a point cloud. A block/sub-block organization scheme is used to encode blocks and sub-blocks of an occupancy map used in compressing the point cloud. Binary values are assigned to blocks/sub-blocks based on whether they contain patches projected on the point cloud. A traversal path is chosen that takes advantage of run-length encoding strategies to reduce a size of an encoded occupancy map. Also, auxiliary information is used to further improve occupancy map compression.

  • Publication number: 20220183102
Abstract: The disclosure relates to methods for improving the DRX operation of a UE by introducing an additional DRX wake-up cycle, which runs in parallel to the short and/or long DRX cycle. The DRX wake-up cycle defines time intervals after which the UE starts monitoring the PDCCH for a wake-up duration of time; the UE does not perform any other operation during the wake-up duration apart from monitoring the PDCCH. The time intervals of the wake-up cycle between the wake-up durations are preferably shorter than the one of the DRX long cycle, and may have the same or a shorter length than the ones of the DRX short cycle. The wake-up duration may be as long as the on-duration of the DRX short/long cycle, or may be preferably much shorter, such as only one or a few subframes.

  • Publication number: 20220182642
Abstract: Block-based, low latency rate control for an encoding system in which a wavelet transform decomposes pixel blocks into subbands stored as subbands in wavelet blocks (WBs) for encoding. Quantization parameters (QPs) for the subbands in each WB are estimated using a method that minimizes wavelet-inverse distortion given a rate bound. For each subband, a rate curve is generated based on an unquantized DCT histogram and bit count statistics for the subband, and a distortion curve is generated based on the unquantized DCT histogram and a distortion estimate for the subband that is estimated using a masked estimator. Once the rate-distortion curves for the subbands are generated, a bisection search may be used to find a point on each curve where the slope is the same for all the curves. The QPs associated with those equally sloped points are the global minimizing QPs for the wavelet block.

  • Publication number: 20220178738
Abstract: In-ear sound pressure level, SPL, is determined that is caused by output audio being converted into sound by a headset worn by a user. The in-ear SPL is converted into a sound sample having units that are suitable for evaluating sound noise exposure. These operations are repeated to produce a sequence of sound samples during playback. This sequence of sound samples is then written to a secure database. Access to the database is authorized by the user. Other aspects are also described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20220182951
Abstract: This disclosure provides techniques for activation of a secondary cell by a user equipment (UE) operating in a wireless network. For example, a UE receives a command to activate a secondary cell of the wireless network for wireless communication, and determines whether timing information is known by the UE for the secondary cell. Based on the determination, the UE performs a first secondary cell activation within first time period based on the timing information being known, or performs a second secondary cell activation within a second time period based on the timing information being unknown. After which, the UE wirelessly communicate data over the wireless network using the secondary cell, based on the secondary cell being activated.
