Patent number: 10735903Abstract: A method for a wireless UE device to utilize tokens and cloud service technology to facilitate the provision of location data to an emergency call center. The UE may provide cellular signaling to initiate an outgoing telephone call to an emergency call center. A token may be provided during the signaling, wherein the token is associated with location information of the UE device stored on a server computer (referred to as a cloud server or location server). The token may uniquely identify the UE device and/or a user cloud service account of the UE device. The call center may use the token to retrieve location information of the UE from the cloud server. The use of the token may also provide for enhanced security, e.g., to prevent spoofing of the UE phone number.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2016Date of Patent: August 4, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Gahima S. Patent number: 10735900Abstract: A method for identifying one or more other mobile devices in a vicinity of a first mobile device includes transmitting a first set of pulses to a second mobile device, receiving a second set of pulses from the second mobile device, and determining distance and angular information corresponding to transmission times of the first set of pulses and reception times of the second set of pulses received at the mobile device. The angular information indicates an angle between a pointing direction of the first mobile device and the second mobile device. A first probability that a position of the second mobile device lies within a first spatial region having a defined distance range and aligned with the pointing direction of the first mobile device is determined based on the distance information and the angular information. An importance metric for the second mobile device is determined based on the first probability.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2019Date of Patent: August 4, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Benjamin A. Patent number: 10728734Abstract: In some embodiments, a user equipment device (UE) implements a method for discovering the presence of neighboring UEs using an on-demand discovery signal transmission technique. This discovery process may be performed to enable the UEs to perform peer-to-peer communications with each other, wherein peer-to-peer communications is defined as direct communication between the UEs without involving a base station. The UE may be configured to transmit a discovery request signal when it has moved greater than a threshold amount since transmission of a prior discovery request signal. The discovery request signal causes one or more neighboring UEs to each transmit a discovery signal in response, and also causes the UE which generated the discovery request signal to transmit its own discovery signal. The received discovery signal from each of the neighboring UEs is useable to discover, or detect the presence of, these neighboring UEs.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2018Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Yuchul Kim, Xiaowen Wang, Tarik Tabet, Dawei Zhang, Syed Aon Mujtaba
