Abstract: Particulate vinyl resin mixed with a liquid premix of carbon black, plasticizer, etc. provides surface resistivities of 10.sup.4 -10.sup.9 ohm/sq. with as little as 0.2 to 5% by weight carbon black in fused sheets or films useful for conductive flooring or wrapping. Overcoating with a plastisol before fusion provides a smooth surface without loss of static dissipative properties. Conductive TiO.sub.2, Sb/SnO.sub.2, organic titanates, dispersions of carbon black and titanium dioxide, di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, epoxidized soybean oil, polyethylene glycol and organic stabilizer are useful for preparing PVC resin compositions.

Abstract: A shaped article of solid ceramic-like material having indentations or fissures of irregular shape and depth, the indentations produced by chemical reaction; and process of manufacture.
Abstract: Disclosed are flocced mineral materials which may be utilized to prepare high temperature resistant, water resistant articles. These materials are prepared by utilizing, as a starting material, a gellable layered swelled silicate that has an average charge per structural unit that ranges from about -0.4 to -1 and which contains interstitial cations which promote swelling with a source of at least one species of multiamine derived cations.

Abstract: An aqueous photopolymer composition is produced by adding a monomer to a latex of a partially neutralized carboxylated acrylic copolymer, having an acid number greater than 80, along with photoinitator and components to produce an aqueous coatable and alkali developable photoresist composition. Preferred neutralization is 30-50% for dip-coating and 40-60% for screen-printing to produce 1 mil lines and 1 mil space after ultraviolet exposure and mild alkali development.

Abstract: An alkoxysilane bearing amic acid or derivative thereof is formed by reacting an aromatic or aliphatic dianhydride and an aminoalkyltrialkoxysilane or aminoaryltrialkoxysilane, or reacting an aromatic or aliphatic dianhydride and a diamine to form an amic acid which is reacted with an aminoalkylenetrialkoxysilane. A thin, hard protective silica glass network is formed by reacting the alkoxysilane bearing amic acid with an alkoxysilane, preferably tetraalkoxysilane, and an epoxy bearing silane coupling agnet in an acid catalyzed sol-gel process involving hydrolysis and condensation, which provides an amide/ester modified silica network. In a variation of this process, a polyamic acid bearing anhydride termination is prepared by reacting an excess of a dianhydride with a diamine. The product of this reaction when reacted with an aminoalkylenetrialkoxysilane provides an alkoxysilane bearing oligomeric polyamic acid.
Abstract: An embossing plate having a geometric shape or decorative pattern projecting on its face is used with a printed sublimation transfer paper to impress the pattern in the fabric surface of a fabric-covered substrate.
Abstract: In order to drive the RF lines (electrodes) of an ion projection printing head or cartridge, driver circuits are provided which generate high voltage, radio frequency signals with rapid envelope rise and fall times so that dots of varying density in accordance with a gray scale may be formed on a rapidly moving dielectric surface. A separate RF driver circuit for each line includes an active switching device, preferably an FET. A series resonant circuit is connected across the active device. This circuit is provided by an inductor connected in series with the effective capacitance presented by the RF electrode of the ion projection head which is being driven. The inductor and effective capacitance defines a series resonant circuit.
Abstract: A 1 to 8 micron organic/inorganic (epoxy/glass) wear surface coating over a clear, protective layer provides excellent stain and gloss protection. An acid hydrolyzed silicate is combined with an acid hydrolyzed silicone coupling agent; an epoxy monomer; a photoinitiator and silicon oil surfactant to produce a coating composition which is dried to remove alcohol/water solvent and U.V. cured.
Abstract: An on-line method for consistency (percent solids by weight) testing of slurries. An aqueous slurry is deaerated and subjected to a nuclear density (gamma radiation) gauge which is oriented to irradiate the slurry along the axis of a pipe section. Pipe elbows at the ends of the test pipe section permit simple attachment of the nuclear density gauge so that the axially-aligned radiation can be used with various pipe lengths. The electrical output of the gauge is read to immediately furnish a real time reading of consistency.
Abstract: Gloss retention and stain resistance are improved in a no-wax UV cured flooring wear surface by reacting a phthalate polyester polyol and a long chain hydroxy acrylate with an aromatic or cycloalkyl diisocyanate to form an oligomer which is employed as a major ingredient of the UV curable coating composition used to produce the wear surface.
Abstract: Resilient tile within 0.005 inches of square and having sides within 0.005 inches of each other may be produced by positioning unfinished tile on a continuous belt. One edge adjacent the trailing edge of each tile is made to contact a stop means while the trailing edge is made to contact two independently adjustable dogs on the continuous belt. The tile is held down by hold-down rollers while the tile is so positioned. The two edges adjacent the trailing edge are edge finished, preferably by two cylindrical shaper routers. The tile is then positioned on a second continuous belt with one of the finished edges becoming the trailing edge and the remaining two edges being edge finished.

Abstract: Non-stick protection can be given to the surfaces of thermoplastic material which has a tendency to become stuck to other thermoplastic surfaces during storage, especially during the heat of the summer months. By placing a film of (1) a salt selected from (a) a hydroxy alkyl sulfonate salt and (b) and alkyl sulfonate salt, and (2) an alkyl sulfate salt on the surface of the thermoplastic, sticking can be reduced or totally prevented.

Abstract: A surface covering product is disclosed which includes a layer of fused embossed PVC material on a substrate and a layer of transparent or translucent thixotropic material substantially covering the fused PVC layer and filling the embossed area of depression in the PVC layer. The surface covering product is made by applying the thixotropic material to the embossed surface of the PVC material and wiping off at least a portion of the thixotropic material. In one embodiment, a film of thixotropic material of substantial or minimal thickness remains on the fused PVC material. In another embodiment, the thixotropic material is completely wiped off the undepressed area of the fused granular material. The PVC material is preferably a granular material such as a stencil vinyl fine material. In one embodiment, the thixotropic material is a layer of minimal thickness substantially covering the stencil vinyl fine material.

Abstract: An outermost wear layer comprising cellulose acetate propionate or butyrate, aminoplast, polyol, acid catalyst and chlorinated polyolefin releases readily from a release layer to provide improved stain and scratch resistance for vinyl surface coverings.
Abstract: Coating compositions and their preparation are described. The compositions can be used to give surfaces a decreased electrical surface resistivity. Choline antistats are used in amounts of about 2% or less by weight, and are combined with long chain quaternary ammonium salt antistats, in a solution with a binder to give antistatic or stat dissipative coating compositions.
Abstract: This invention relates to a rigid, water-resistant phosphate ceramic product having improved acoustical properties; the components used to prepare the product; and its process of manufacture.
