  • Patent number: 9473736
Abstract: In response to receiving from a subscriber both a request to record content and a unique requester key, a network DVR identifies an asset associated with the request. The network DVR segments the asset in to a series of segments, assigns a mediaword to each segment for compression, encrypts each of the segments using an encryption key, and records the encrypted asset segments in an encrypted dictionary storage as definitions, i.e., dictionary entries. The encrypted key and the mediaword are forwarded to a requester handler flow in the network DVR that generates requester-specific encrypted copies using the requester key received from the subscriber. The mediaword, encrypted encryption key, and the encrypted asset segments are stored in and retrievable for the corresponding requester.

  • Patent number: 9473492
Abstract: A password scheme is provided that can be used for security of cable modems in a cable network. In the system, the password is unique to each modem, the password is not fixed for the life of the device, is not shared across cable systems, is easily recoverable after a compromise, and is changed periodically based on some type of configuration. In the system each modem creates its own random password. Then the modem encrypts the password using a public key provided by the cable system and stores the encrypted password in a Management Information Base (MIB) operated by the cable system. The MIB operator decrypts the encrypted password corresponding to the public key and recovers the password. The cable operator uses the password to log in remotely to the modem. If a compromise or change of the public key or password occurs, the password is regenerated using the same procedure.

  • Patent number: 9473732
Abstract: Systems and methods for a self-correcting DVR record pipeline may provider for simpler, lower cost transport producer hardware elements. A free running transport pipeline producer may fill transport buffers without waiting for feedback from the data consumer that data has been completely processed. The pipeline data consumer independently detects transport buffers that are overwritten before processing on the buffer content is complete. The pipeline data consumer drops or deletes any invalid content or stream data to recover from the data overflow condition.

  • Patent number: 9467381
Abstract: A cable network facilitates communication between a CMTS and cable modems over a plurality of channels. The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) protocol access system for load balancing in a cable network transmits a change request directing movement of a cable modem to a different channel. The change request indicates an initialization technique for the cable modem to perform once synchronized to the different channel(s). If the cable modem is not successfully initialized on the different channel or channel set, the CMTS is configured to iteratively transmit subsequent retry requests. The subsequent retry requests may indicate an initialization technique based on a list of initialization techniques.

  • Patent number: 9462270
Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods can operate to generate frame aligned digital video streams encoded at different bitrates from a common digital video stream. To provide uninterrupted playback of video content when a device switches from one stream encoded at one bit rate to the same digital video stream encoded at another bitrate, the video frames of the digital video streams can be aligned. To provide for proper frame alignment between fragments representing the same frame of a digital video stream encoded at different bitrates, video encoding device(s) can mark decoded digital pictures for subsequent encoding at different bit rates when the division of a program reference clock value by the fragment period approaches an integer value.

  • Patent number: 9460128
Abstract: This disclosure relates to populating an aggregated sliding window view group comprising one or more internal views, and each of the internal views in group has its own interval. In some implementations of this disclosure, the aggregated sliding window view group can store the history of previous view results and each row in a view inside the aggregated sliding window view group can correspond to a fixed interval of time. In various implementations, a view inside the aggregated sliding window view group can be populated from lower-level sliding window views based on a relationship between the aggregated sliding window view and the lower-level sliding window views. In some implementations, a sliding window view can store a constant number of view results. The aggregated sliding window view group can provide a user with a convenient and efficient means for displaying multiple data aggregates associated with multiple periods of time simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 9462344
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media can be operable to facilitate regulation of trickplay control during playback of streaming multimedia. Trickplay control can be regulated by associating a segment of a multimedia stream with a finite state automaton, associating a state of the finite state automaton with a flag, and controlling transitions from state to state within the finite state automaton by client interactions with the multimedia stream or predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 9460503
Abstract: A test system is provided for analyzing a video frame received from a device under test such as a video rendering device includes a video capture device, a matrix code reader and a video quality analyzer. The video capture device receives a video stream from a video rendering device that includes a plurality of video frames. At least one of the video frames includes a matrix code overlaid thereon. The matrix code encodes one or more test parameters specifying one or more quality tests that are to be performed on the video frame on which the matrix code is overlaid. The matrix code reader scans and decodes the matrix code. The video quality analyzer analyzes the quality of the video frame based on the one or more quality tests embodied in the matrix code and decoded by the matrix code decoding device.

  • Patent number: 9456243
Abstract: An analyzer analyzes portions of a logical data stream including data content received from a source. Based on analyzing the data content (e.g., data content formatted according to Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)) received from the source, the analyzer generates metadata associated with multiple analyzed portions of the logical data stream. The metadata supports manipulation of how the logical data stream is presented when at least a portion of the data content of the logical data stream is later presented to a receiver for play back in a mode different than the original content (e.g., play back includes fast forwarding, rewinding, and/or pausing.
