  • Patent number: 12143587
Abstract: A method for transforming high dynamic range (HDR) video data into standard dynamic range (SDR) video data and encoding the SDR video data so that the HDR video data may be recovered at the decoder includes generating a tone map describing a transformation applied to the HDR video data to generate the SDR video data. The generated tone map describes the transformation as the multiplication of each HDR pixel in the HDR video data by a scalar to generate the SDR video data. The tone map is then modeled as a reshaping transfer function and the HDR video data is processed by the reshaping transfer function to generate the SDR video data. The reshaping transfer function is then inverted and described in a self-referential metadata structure. The SDR video data is then encoded including the metadata structure defining the inverse reshaping transfer function.

  • Publication number: 20240357178
Abstract: A method of partitioning a video coding block for JVET, comprising representing a JVET coding tree unit as a root node in a quadtree plus binary tree (QTBT) structure that can have a quadtree branching from the root node and binary trees branching from each of the quadtree's leaf nodes using asymmetric binary partitioning to split a coding unit represented by a quadtree leaf node into two child coding units of unequal size, representing the two child coding units as leaf nodes in a binary tree branching from the quadtree leaf node and coding the child coding units represented by leaf nodes of the binary tree with JVET, wherein further partitioning of child coding units split from quadtree leaf nodes via asymmetric binary partitioning is disallowed.

  • Publication number: 20240357199
Abstract: A method is provided that broadcasts channels to set top boxes (STB), processes them, and makes them available in ABR streaming format to clients in a home network. The method includes the steps of: transmitting a plurality of streams for each channel broadcast, wherein each stream is at a different bitrate and is segmentable into chunks; receiving the plurality of streams for one or more channels at the STB; and storing a plurality of segmentable chunk durations for each of the plurality of streams for each channel received. In some embodiments, HLS is packaged as MPEG transport without a manifest file, and a set top box (STB) caches HLS chunks for at least the consumer's most viewed channels, reducing acquisition time of those HLS streams. The STB reconstitutes the HLS playlist and chunks for delivery throughout the home.

  • Patent number: 12126433
Abstract: In some embodiments, a first computing device detects a loss of a connection to a first source of timing information that the first computing device and a second computing device use to maintain synchronization with a first clock and a second clock. The first computing device receives a second source of timing information from the second computing device. The second source of timing information is also being transmitted to a third computing device. The first computing device uses the second source of timing information to determine a first timestamp and determines a second timestamp from the first clock. The first computing device uses the first timestamp and the second timestamp to adjust a rate of the first clock where the first clock is used to transmit the second source of timing information from the second computing device to the third computing device.

  • Patent number: 12127175
Abstract: Many network devices initially connect to a network using a wireless frequency band that may not provide the best network performance. A wireless management module can determine that a network device, such as a mobile phone, is connected to the wireless network using an inferior wireless frequency band, for example, the 2.4 GHz wireless frequency band, even though a superior wireless frequency band, for example, the 5 GHz wireless frequency band is available or accessible. Based on a device setting, the wireless management module can automatically switch the mobile network device to the higher frequency wireless frequency band without requiring any user intervention. Additionally, or in the alternative, the wireless management module can prompt the user to allow switching to a different wireless frequency band. Switching to the higher frequency band improves network performance for the network device.
