  • Patent number: 4323870
Abstract: To reduce the ohmic losses in a sheet-wound transformer or reactor winding, edge regions of at least some of the turns of the conductor sheet forming the winding are located at a different distance from the geometric axis of the winding compared with the distance from said axis of a central conductor portion in a respective one of said turns. Preferably the conductor sheet in each turn substantially follows the flux lines for the resultant magnetic leakage flux which corresponds to a constant current density in the sheet. For example, the winding may be wound from a metallic foil whose edge regions are folded back on themselves, or end regions of the winding may be provided with inter-turn packings (e.g. of tape) to achieve the desired flared shape of the turns at the ends of the winding.

  • Patent number: 4322591
Abstract: A puffer type circuit breaker is provided with a pump means consisting of a piston and a cylinder for producing a blast of arc-extinguishing gas. The piston is axially displaceable against a spring force, and the cylinder is joined to the movable contact of the circuit breaker and arranged, during a breaking operation, to compress the gas in the cylinder space of the pump means to achieve a blast of extinguishing gas towards the contact area. A spring holds the piston pressed against a stop in the closed as well as the open position of the circuit breaker. The spring has such a high pre-stress that the piston only moves upon breaking of short-circuit currents.

  • Patent number: 4318167
Abstract: An electrical inverter with controllable output voltage comprises a three-phase self-commutated inverter bridge which is supplied from a d.c. voltage source. A reference signal generator generates a three-phase binary reference signal for controlling the shape of the curve of the output voltage of the inverter. This signal is modulated or mixed in a mixing stage with a binary pulse train having a controllable pulse-width ratio and a relatively high frequency. The output signal from the mixing stage is supplied to the inverter bridge in such a way that the output voltage of the inverter bridge corresponds to the product of the reference signal and the pulse train.

  • Patent number: 4316141
Abstract: The invention relates to a measuring device having a transmitter side and a receiver side, arranged for signal transmission from the transmitter side to the receiver side via an optical connection. The transmitter side comprises members for combining an incoming measuring signal with a signal from a reference voltage source to two different signals, arranged to be transmitted to the receiver side via each of two parallel optical channels. The receiver side comprises means for receiving the two transmitted signals and for controlling the amplification in the signal paths with a view to obtaining compensation for variation of parameters included in the two channels and other elements in corresponding signal paths. In addition, the receiver side includes a device which, from the two transmitted signals, forms a signal (U.sub.ut) independent of the input measuring signal of the transmitter side.

The billets are fed by a plurality of paired roller elements and each heater module in each pair of heater modules is suspended from respective ones of the paired roller elements on opposite sides of the billet such that a substantially constant distance from the opposite surfaces of the billets to the respective heater modules is independent of the thickness and/or straightness of the billets. At least some of the heater modules may be mounted to be rotatable in a plane parallel to the respective surfaces of the billets. The heater modules may be series-connected in pairs and the paired heater modules either series-connected or parallel-connected in groups.

  • Patent number: 4309568
Abstract: An electrical bushing is provided to facilitate the passage of electrical conductor leads from thermocouples or the like through a pressure barrier. The bushing includes a casing and a deformable, resilient, elastic plug which is disposed in a central conductor receiving bore of the casing in surrounding relationship to the conductors. Thus, when the plug is compressed in a direction axially of the casing, the plug tends to expand laterally radially and into sealing contact with the internal surfaces of the bore and with the electrical conductors.

  • Patent number: 4296452
Abstract: In circuitry for generating tripping and blocking signals for the protection of electrical components in an electrical power supply network as a result of the occurrence of faults therein, respective tripping and blocking outputs for each phase of an electrical power supply network are generated such that double or triple pole tripping is prevented unless the presence of an actual second tripping signal is detected subsequent to the detection of a first tripping signal. The respective tripping signals and blocking signals for each phase of the electrical power supply network are generated in dependence on whether the fault lies ahead or behind the electrical component to be protected, respectively, in response to measurement of the voltage and current associated with transient waves generated by faults in each electrical power supply network phase.

  • Patent number: 4296395
Abstract: Certain windings in a transformer are subjected to radially inwardly-directed forces while being short-circuited. If such a winding is not sufficiently stable itself, particularly with respect to tape windings, or does not have sufficient support radially outwardly or inwardly, it will buckle or break. To prevent such an occurrence, it is possible to arrange an outward support around the winding by completely or partly filling up the space between the winding, which is subjected to buckling stress, and a second winding positioned outside the first winding. Additionally, there is required an inner supporting cylinder, which is preferably made of metal, so that it can be made relatively thin.

  • Patent number: 4295113
Abstract: In a transformer or a reactor having at least one winding of foil-formed electrical conductor material, a magnetic-flux-controlling spirally-wound sheet of highly permeable ferro-magnetic material is arranged axially outside each end of the winding. The ends of the sheet are galvanically connected to the foil winding. By division of the magnetic material in the sheet, a high resistance in the longitudinal direction of the sheet, and thus lower losses, are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4287459
Abstract: An industrial robot (1-10) is arranged to position workpieces (OP) in a unidimensional or multidimensional pattern or to collect workpieces located in such a pattern. The robot is first controlled to a predetermined preliminary position (e.g. P'.sub.O) and thereafter to its final position in the pattern by way of sensing members (9). The preliminary position for a workpiece is calculated with the final position of an adjacent workpiece as the starting point. To this position is added a vector corresponding to the spacing of the pattern. The spacing is calculated as the difference between the coordinates for the final positions of two workpieces located adjacent to the workpiece in question.

  • Patent number: 4284393
Abstract: Apparatus for manufacturing powder, especially metallic powder, by a melt atomization process, comprises a closed container in which a jet of gas is directed transversely into a stream of the melt and breaks it down into droplets which rapidly solidify and are thrown in a parabolic trajectory to the lower part of the container. In the lower part of the container there is an inclined bottom or a shaking table on which the powder flows to an outlet opening. Means are provided for withdrawing gas from the container, cooling it and re-introducing it into the lower part of the container where it is forced by guide means to flow in contact with the powder flowing to the outlet opening. The flow direction of this re-introduced gas is substantially opposite to the direction of flow of the powder to the outlet opening, so that it has an efficient cooling effect on the powder.
