Abstract: An email message is filtered to determine whether or not it is an undesired email message (e.g., “spam,” “junk mail,” etc.) that originates from an undesirable domain, such as, for example, a domain designated as originating from an undesirable geographic location. In some embodiments, upon determining that the email message originates from an undesirable domain, the email message is deleted (e.g., permanently removed, moved to a designated folder, marked for followup, etc.). In other embodiments, upon determining that the email message originates from an undesirable domain, the email message is further filtered to determine whether or not the email message includes attributes that indicate that the email message should not be discarded.
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device having a controller to present a plurality of selectable commodity items, detect one or more selections from the plurality of commodity items, generate a list from the one or more commodity items selected, and transmit the list to a system. The system can be adapted to receive the list from the communication device, determine a selection order for the items in the list based on a location of each item in a store and at least one characteristic of at least one of the items, update the list according to the selection order, and transmit the updated list to a device for conducting commodity shopping according to the adjusted list. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract: A system for routing business-to-business (“B2B”) messages includes a cyclical neural network. The cyclical neural network contains neurons for determining a needed destination of a message based on content type of the message, for example. Neurons are monitored to establish a “state of understanding” of the network during processing, and tags may be applied to messages upon a determination of the needed destination.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a service that delivers location information associated with a caller. The service operates in both wireline and wireless networks, providing called parties with the location information of calling parties who use either stationary terminal devices or mobile devices. The service can operate as a stand alone service or can be a part of a calling name delivery service (or caller-ID service), delivering location information in addition to the conventional name, number, date, and time. The components of the present invention include a service control point, an address database in communication with the service control point, and a network that tracks the locations of mobile network users. The system further includes a mapping converter if the location data provided by the network is not meaningful to a subscriber.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are described for the automated payment, download over a network, installation on a set-top box, and play of console and online video games by user interaction with a controller-adapted set-top box. Security measures inhibit video game piracy.
Abstract: A particular method includes determining whether a recording at a set top box is in progress. When the recording is in progress, a program provided by a video stream transmitted to the set top box is recorded. After the recording is complete, a request is automatically sent to a content source to turn off the video stream. When the recording is not in progress, a warning is transmitted for display at a display device that the video stream will be turned off after a timeout period. After the timeout period has elapsed, the request is automatically sent to the content source to turn off the video stream.
Abstract: A computer implemented method includes receiving, at a server of an internet protocol television (IPTV) network, a voting selection from a set-top box device. The voting selection is associated with video content that is received at the set-top box device via the IPTV network. The computer implemented method includes adding the voting selection to a tally of votes related to the video content when a voting status indicates that a previous vote has not been received from the set-top box device. The computer implemented method also includes changing the voting status to indicate that a vote has been received from the set-top box device after adding the voting selection to the tally of votes.

Abstract: Systems and methods for timed ring suppression are disclosed. After a communications device receives an incoming call and the ringer is activated to produce an initial audible alert, the ringer of the communications device may be silenced for subsequent audible alerts until the calling party hangs up or until the call is further processed.
Abstract: A method and system for use in identifying customer premises equipment (CPE) in a distributed network are presented. The method includes receiving a first point-to-point-over Ethernet active discovery packet generating a device identifier code that identifies a product model of a customer premises equipment (CPE) device, and sending a second point-to-point over Ethernet (PPPoE) active discovery packet. The second PPPoE active discovery packet includes a tag that includes the device identifier code.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for data structure driven authorization and routing of outdial communication services are disclosed. A disclosed method comprises obtaining a call criterion from a request to authorize an outdial communication service call, and retrieving an authorization result based on the call criterion by accessing a data structure that correlates a plurality of authorization results with a plurality of call criteria, wherein each of the plurality of authorization results is selectively modifiable.

Abstract: Communication between a source and a destination is dynamically established. A connection request is received. The connection request is based on a request transmitted over a best-effort path from the source. A network connection is established having a specified quality of service (QoS) based on the request between the source and the destination. Data for a first application is transmitted over the network connection and data for a second application is transmitted over the best-effort path.

Abstract: A method and system for programming a universal remote control (URC) to operate with a new remote controlled device is disclosed. A digital image of the new device is generated and sent to a multimedia content distribution network (MCDN) server, along with MCDN account information. The digital image may be used to identify the new device. Programming codes may be retrieved and sent to client premises equipment (CPE) at an MCDN client identified by the MCDN account information. The CPE may be instructed to reprogram the URC to control the new device using the programming codes. The digital image may be sent to the server using wireless telephony service provided by the MCDN service provider.
Abstract: A method and system for truth discovery may implement a methodology that accounts for accuracy of sources and dependency between sources. The methodology may be based on Bayesian probability calculus for determining which data object values published by sources are likely to be true. The method may be recursive with respect to dependency, accuracy, and actual truth discovery for a plurality of sources.
Abstract: A method for providing audio portions of broadcast television signals is disclosed. A television signal is buffered by a multimedia client. In response to a user request, audio data may be obtained from a service provider and sent back to the multimedia client using a network back-channel. The obtained audio data may be synchronized with a video portion of the television signal and output to an audio device, while the television signal is output to a display device.
