Abstract: A telephone network voting system receives telephone ballots cast by voters by dialing a telephone number. The telephone number is dialed by voters spread over a large geographic area. The voting calls are routed to points of presence local to or otherwise identified with the caller by using the caller's ANI or other originating number identification. The points of presence then accumulate votes and periodically forward tallies to a centralized location over a data network. Instructions may be transmitted from the centralized location to the points of presence.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and computer readable media for comparing customer voice prints comprising of uncommonly spoken words with a database of known fraudulent voice signatures and continually updating the database to decrease the risk of identity theft. The method embodiment comprises comparing a received voice signal against a database of known fraudulent voice signatures, denying the caller's transaction if the voice signal substantially matches the database of known fraudulent voice signatures, adding the caller's voice signal to the database of known fraudulent voice signatures if the voice signal does not substantially match a separate speaker verification database and received additional information is not verified.
Abstract: Open-domain question answering is the task of finding a concise answer to a natural language question using a large domain, such as the Internet. The use of a semantic role labeling approach to the extraction of the answers to an open domain factoid (Who/When/What/Where) natural language question that contains a predicate is described. Semantic role labeling identities predicates and semantic argument phrases in the natural language question and the candidate sentences. When searching for an answer to a natural language question, the missing argument in the question is matched using semantic parses of the candidate answers. Such a technique may improve the accuracy of a question answering system and may decrease the length of answers for enabling voice interface to a question answering system.

Abstract: A video coding system that codes video objects as scalable video object layers. Data of each video object may be segregated in to one or more layers. A base layer contains sufficient information to decode a basic representation of the video object. Enhancement layers contain supplementary data regarding the video object that, if decoded, enhance the basic representation obtained from the base layer. The present invention thus provides a coding scheme suitable for use with decoders of varying processing power. A simple decoder may decode only the base layer of the video objects to obtain the basic representation. However, more powerful decoders may decode the base layer data of video objects and additional enhancement layer data to obtain improved decoded output. The coding scheme supports enhancement of both the spatial resolution and the temporal resolution of video object.
