  • Patent number: 6121948
Abstract: A method for writing data to a display, wherein logical segments (groups of rows) are dynamically redefined to displace the intersegment boundaries and delocalize inter-pixel electrical fields occurring across the intersegment boundaries. One particular method includes the steps of grouping rows of a display to define the logical segments, writing data to at least one of the logical segments, writing a predefined value to each of the logical segments, regrouping the rows of the display to redefine the logical segments, and writing data to at least one of the redefined segments. Code contained in an electronically readable medium, for example a memory device, causes a display driver circuit to write data to a display in accordance with the described methods.

  • Patent number: 6106120
Abstract: A mechanical convergence fixture apparatus (10) having an LCD frame assembly (12) which is positioned in relation to a projector chassis (14) using an alignment assembly (12) which is positioned in relation to a projector chassis (14) using an alignment assembly (16). The LCD frame assembly (12) has a micro LCD (24) rigidly affixed thereto and a field lens (32) adjustably affixed thereto. A vacuum chuck (40) holds the LCD frame assembly (12) on the alignment assembly (16) while the LCD frame assembly (12) is positioned. A drop of adhesive (62) is then placed on each of a plurality of locating studs (18) and a like plurality of locating holes (20) to affix the LCD frame assembly (12) in position on the chassis (14). The alignment assembly (16) is then detached from the LCD frame assembly (12) to be reused.

  • Patent number: 6076931
Abstract: A projection system includes a collimating lens group for collimating an imaging beam. The collimating lens group has an optical axis that is de-centered with respect to the axis of the imaging beam. Further, the optical axis of the collimating lens group forms a non-zero angle with the axis of the imaging beam. The de-centered collimating lens group enables the use of more conventional projection optics, without the unacceptable displacement of the projected image.

  • Patent number: 6072452
Abstract: A display driver circuit and method for receiving a display data stream, modifying the display data stream to enhance gray scale performance, and outputting the modified display data stream. The display driver includes a forced state generator for adding at least one forced state to the display data stream to create the modified display data stream. The forced state generator includes a multiplexer and a forced state controller. The multiplexer includes a data input terminal for receiving the display data stream, a first forced state input terminal for receiving first forced state data, a second forced state input terminal for receiving second forced state data, a data output terminal for outputting the modified display data stream, and a pair of control input terminals. The forced state controller includes a pair of control output terminals coupled the control input terminals of the multiplexer.

  • Patent number: 6067065
Abstract: A method for displaying multi-bit data words on a display including a plurality of pixel electrodes, a plurality of storage elements, a first voltage supply terminal, a second voltage supply terminal, a common electrode, and a plurality of multiplexers each selectively coupling an associated one of the pixel electrodes with one of the first voltage supply terminal and the second voltage supply terminal responsive to a value of a data bit stored in an associated one of said storage elements, includes the steps of sequentially writing each bit of the multi-bit data words to the storage elements, and asserting, while each bit is stored in the storage elements, a first predetermined voltage on the first voltage supply terminal, a second predetermined voltage on the second voltage supply terminal, and a third predetermined voltage on the common electrode, for a time dependent on the significance of the stored bit.

  • Patent number: 6046858
Abstract: A color separation and recombination system separates a beam of white light traveling along an optical axis into three differently colored light beams. The system then independently modulates each colored beam and recombines the colored beams to create a color image. The system includes a crossed pair of dichroic filters to separate the beam of white light and to recombine the modulated bundles. The system also includes a pair of aberration-compensating elements that equalize the optical thickness of glass through which each light bundle passes. This equalization of optical thickness equalizes the aberration induced into each bundle. In another embodiment the beam of white light is polarized before separation. The polarities of the colored light beams are then modulated using a spatial light modulator. An analyzer and half-wave plate are provided between the spatial light modulator and the crossed dichroic filters to pass only a portion of the modulated light.

  • Patent number: 6005558
Abstract: A display includes a pair of global voltage supply terminals, for providing predetermined voltages, and a plurality of pixel cells. Each pixel cell includes a pixel electrode, a storage element for storing a data bit, and a multiplexer for selectively coupling the pixel electrode with one or the other of the global voltage supply terminals, depending on the value of the stored data bit. A voltage controller asserts predetermined voltages on the global voltage supply terminals, which are then transferred to the coupled pixel electrodes.
