  • Patent number: 7995107
Abstract: A method of obtaining a spatial low pass filtered images from the video output of a video camera operable to produce successive video frames in the form of pixelated 2D sensed images. Each of the sensed images has a first predetermined number of rows of pixels and a second predetermined number of columns of pixels. The method may include scanning the sensor array row by row, and deriving the value of each pixel of said low spatial frequency image in such a way that said low spatial frequency value of a pixel is dependent on at least all earlier scanned pixels of the current row and all earlier scanned rows, but is not dependent on the pixels of rows located below a pixel row which is a third predetermined number of rows below the current row, said third predetermined number being significantly less than said first predetermined number.

  • Patent number: 7995095
Abstract: In a night vision arrangement for a motor vehicle in which a camera captures an infra-red image of the roadway in front of the vehicle, a video signal generated by the camera is processed by a signal processor so that the field of view of the image displayed by a display unit is selected in accordance with a control signal. The control signal is generated by a signal generator which is responsive to one or more parameters of the movement of the vehicle. The width of the field of view may be decreased with increasing speed. The axial direction of the field of view may be adjusted depending upon the nature of a turning movement of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7988188
Abstract: A side airbag (10) for a motor vehicle comprises an airbag shell that surrounds a gas compartment and has at least one opening. A hose (20) has an outlet opening (22) and is located on the outside of the airbag shell. When the hose is in a state in which it is not under pressure, the hose connects the opening (16) to the outlet opening (22), and thereby to the surrounding area. The hose (20) comprises a first section (20a), which is situated at the height of the opening (16), and a second section (20b), which connects the first section (20a) to the outlet opening (22). The ventilation arrangement composed of the opening (16) and the hose (20) is used to make the side airbag hard for a large occupant and soft for a small occupant. In order to improve the behavior of the side airbag for a small occupant, without impairing the behavior thereof for a large occupant, the maximum cross-section of the first section (20a) is larger than the minimum cross-section of the second section (20b).

  • Patent number: 7980593
Abstract: A passenger airbag module equipped with an airbag cushion and a tether holder used in a vehicle. The tether holder holds a tether prior to inflating the airbag cushion and inhibits twisting of the tether during deployment of the tether when the airbag cushion is inflated. When the tether is deployed without being twisted or folded, the deployment length of the tether is not reduced. Thus, the airbag is more consistently deployed and inflated.

  • Patent number: 7963550
Abstract: Provided is a knee airbag capable of adjusting the height and width of the airbag upon deployment thereof and deploying the airbag along a lower crash panel. The knee airbag is installed at a lower crash panel and has an inflator installed at a predetermined position thereof, wherein the knee airbag has at least one wrinkle part folded in a longitudinal direction of side surfaces thereof. Since an upper part of the knee airbag is expanded more than a lower part thereof, it is possible to more safely protect passenger's knees. In addition, since the knee airbag is expanded upward and downward, it is also possible to protect passenger's ankles and readily adjust the height and width of the knee airbag. Further, the knee airbag is expanded to correspond to an appearance of a lower crash, thereby more safely protecting the passenger.

  • Patent number: 7959185
Abstract: An inflator bottle adapted for controlled release of product gas to deploy an inflatable cushion and a method thereof is provided. The inflator bottle comprises a compartment filled with a combustible gas mixture having a partition that divides the compartment into a first region and a second region. Upon a crash event, an igniter on the inflator bottle ignites initiating combustion in the first region. Combustion propagates in the first region toward a nozzle building pressure in the first region sufficient to rupture a burst disk over the passage of the nozzle releasing product gas through the nozzle. The release of product gas through the nozzle draws combustible gas mixture from the second region flowing through the gas portal on the partition into the first region for combustion.
