Patent number: 12056467Abstract: An industrial integrated development environment (IDE) supports decoupled development of industrial control programs without requiring the programs to be initially bound to a specific industrial controller. The IDE system allows industrial control programs to be defined as smart objects within an industrial control project. These smart objects can be created without an initial binding to an industrial controller, and can subsequently be assigned to selected industrial controllers after development of the control programs is complete, or while program development is in progress. A smart object can be reused and deployed to multiple industrial controllers, providing a simple means to implement common control functionality on multiple different automation systems.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2022Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Anthony Carrara, Lorenzo P. Patent number: 12052231Abstract: A logic circuit for managing reception of secure data packets in an industrial controller snoops data being transferred by a Media Access Controller (MAC) between a network port and a shared memory location within the industrial controller. The logic circuit is configured to perform authentication and/or decryption on the data packet as the data packet is being transferred between the port and the shared memory location. The logic circuit performs authentication as the data is being transferred and completes authentication shortly after the MAC has completed transferring the data to the shared memory. The logic circuit coordinates operation with the MAC and signals a Software Packet Processing (SPP) module when authentication is complete. The logic circuit is further configured to decrypt the data packet, if necessary, and to similarly coordinate operation with the MAC and delay signaling the SPP module that data is ready until decryption is complete.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2023Date of Patent: July 30, 2024Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth William Batcher

Patent number: 12052137Abstract: A model-based industrial security policy configuration system implements a plant-wide industrial asset security policy in accordance with security policy definitions provided by a user. The configuration system models the collection of industrial assets for which diverse security policies are to be implemented. An interface allows the user to define zone-specific security configuration and event management policies for a plant environment at a high-level based on a security model that groups the industrial assets into security zones. Based on the model and these policy definitions, the system generates asset-level security setting instructions configured to set appropriate device settings on one or more of the industrial assets to implement the security event management policies, and deploys these instructions to the appropriate assets in order to implement the defined policies.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2023Date of Patent: July 30, 2024Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David E Huffman, Taryl Jasper, Jack Visoky

Patent number: 12045035Abstract: An industrial gateway device supports interactive feature engineering tools that guide a user through an intuitive process for configuring data analytics for key performance indicators (KPIs) of interest. A feature engineering interface renders an interactive model view that displays available data points such that the data points are organized hierarchically according to plant, machine, machine property, or other elements. The user can select, from this model view, data points having an impact on the KPI of interest. The interface also allows the user to define an executable script that defines a mathematical relationship between the selected data points and the KPI. This configuration yields an output model that defines a reduced set of data points to be collected and analyzed, as well as an executable script for assessing a state of the KPI as a function of the reduced data point values.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2023Date of Patent: July 23, 2024Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Achim Thomsen, Cyril Perducat, Manuel Sukerman, Arvind Vijayanagar Rao, Chirayu Shah, Stephen C.
