Patent number: 8260002Abstract: A video analytics system and associated methodology for performing low-level video analytics processing divides the processing into three phases in order to efficiently use SIMD instructions of many modern data processors. In the first phase, pixels of interest are gathered using a predetermined mask and placed into a pixel matrix. In the second phase, video analytics processing is performed on the pixel matrix, and in the third phase the pixels are scattered using the same predetermined mask. This allows many pixels to be processed simultaneously, increasing overall performance. A DMA unit may also be used to offload the processor during the gathering and scattering of pixels, further increasing performance. A network camera integrates the video analytics system to reduce network traffic.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2008Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Axis ABInventor: Johan Almbladh

Publication number: 20120147197Abstract: A digital video camera performs a method to improve the image quality of captured images in a video image stream. The method includes capturing a first subset of images, outputting the images of the first subset of images as the video image stream, moving an image sensor and/or a lens of the digital video camera from a respective normal position to a respective test position before capturing an image of a second subset of images. The digital video camera captures a second subset of images interspersed with the first subset of images, compares image quality of the first subset of images with an image of the second subset of images, and determines if the image of the second subset of images exhibits improved image quality as compared with the image of the first subset of images. If so, an image quality improvement operation is initiated.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2011Publication date: June 14, 2012Applicant: AXIS ABInventors: Jonas Hjelmström, Jan Sonnvik

Publication number: 20120106937Abstract: A camera and a method for selecting a focus region in a camera view have a plurality of focus regions that are defined in the camera view. A focus distance of the camera is repeatedly set to focus at different distances by setting a lens distance of the camera to different lens distance values. A focus value is determined for each focus region at the set lens distance value. A function for a plurality of focus regions is estimated based on a plurality of determined focus value and lens distance value pairs. A local maximum point of the function is calculated for each focus region for which a function has been estimated, where the local maximum point has a lens distance value. Focus regions are grouped, rated and selected based on the lens distance value of the local maximum point of the focus regions and spatial distances between the focus regions.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2011Publication date: May 3, 2012Applicant: AXIS ABInventors: Simon Molin, Dennis Nilsson

Patent number: 8121424Abstract: A system, computer program product and associated methodology for video motion detection combines a series of images of a video sequence into an image volume having vertices of X, Y and t. The image volume is sliced in either the (X,t) or (Y,t) planes, filtered with a spatio-temporal filter and thresholded to reduce the amount of information. Then a search algorithm searches along search lines in a subset of the video sequence to locate motion. Motion can be detected by identifying lines that are not parallel to any of the vertices. Stationary subjects and lighting changes appear as lines parallel to one of the vertices. Thus, true motion can be distinguished from lighting changes.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2008Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Axis ABInventor: Johan Almbladh
