Abstract: An apparatus according to one embodiment includes a near-field transducer positioned towards an air bearing surface side of the apparatus; and at least one conductor or circuit for causing heating of the near-field transducer. A method according to one embodiment includes heating the near-field transducer by passing a current through the at least one conductor or circuit; and illuminating the near-field transducer during a write operation, wherein the current does not pass through the at least one conductor or circuit for at least a majority of a time of illumination. Additional embodiments are also presented.

Abstract: An enclosed proximity switch assembly includes a top enclosure and a bottom enclosure that are coupled to form an interior volume. A shaft protrusion upwardly extends from a top surface of the top enclosure, and an interior bore portion having an enclosed volume is defined within the shaft protrusion to form a portion of the interior volume. A first end of a vertical shaft is rotatably disposed within the interior bore portion such that the shaft rotates relative to the top and bottom enclosures. A samarium cobalt target magnet is coupled to the shaft, and the target magnet interacts with a samarium cobalt driver magnet within a proximity switch when the target magnet is rotated within a predetermined distance of a top portion of the proximity switch. The interaction causes a switch to move from a first state to a second state, or vice versa.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for therapeutic treatment of a patient having active tuberculosis (TB), the method comprising: administering to the patient a recombinant adenovirus vector that comprises nucleic acid encoding the Ag85A, Ag85B and TB10.4 antigens of Mycobactium tuberculosis (Mtb). Advantageously, the method can be used to shorten conventional drug therapy for treating active TB.

Abstract: A system and method identifies a video file in response to a video based search query. A video imaging device in a mobile device captures a video file, and sends the video file to a search engine. A database associated with the search engine stores pre-indexed metadata of pre-indexed frames of video. A video analyzer separates the received video file into individual frames, analyzes the individual frames received from the mobile device by converting the individual frames into metadata, and compares the metadata to the pre-indexed metadata of the pre-indexed frames stored in the database. The video analyzer then sends a message containing information about the identified pre-existing video back to the mobile device based on the comparison of metadata. The metadata of the file and/or the metadata in the database may include one or more of pixel information, histogram information, image recognition information and audio information for each individual frame.

Abstract: A superhydrophilic amphiphilic copolymer and process for making the superhydrophilic amphiphilic copolymer includes a low molecular weight polysaccharide modified with a hydrophobic reagent, such as substituted succinic anhydride. The superhydrophilic amphiphilic copolymer system generates stable foam for use in applications, such as healthcare formulations, with low irritation of the eyes and skin.

Abstract: The testing of programming code for a web service, such as code for a web service application program or for a web service application programming interface (API), is automatically performed. A set of web service requests is generated based on potential input values for fields of the requests that are included in a spreadsheet. The web service requests are firstly processed via execution of a production version of the programming code to generate a set of production web service responses, where the production version of the programming code is assumed to generate accurate web service responses. The web service requests are then processed via execution of a new version of the programming code to generate a set of new web service responses. The web service responses of the new and production sets are compared to determine whether the new version of the programming code functions accurately.

Abstract: A cutting unit for agricultural machines, including a rotor carrying on a base body spaced apart tine arrangements with circumferential phase shifts between adjacent tine arrangements. Each tine arrangement includes at least one tine with a base secured to the rotor base body and an outwardly protruding triangular tine tip forming a conveying flank leading in the rotor rotation direction and extending from the tine end to a transition into the base. A cutting unit bottom forms a lower boundary of a conveying channel. Cutting blades protrude from the cutting unit bottom through the conveying channel besides moving paths of the tine tips. Scrapers are placed in a conveying direction through the conveying channel behind the rotor. A compression surface provided at the base of the tine ahead of the conveying flank in the rotor rotation direction gradually ascends at least substantially up to the transition into the conveying flank.

The seed layer has a non-continuous metallic layer with a cubed crystalline lattice that is 001 textured, and has a lattice mismatch within 15% of a crystalline lattice structure of FePt with a metallic additive. Abstract: In one embodiment, a system includes a medium, a magnetic head having a write element adapted for writing data to the medium, a MAMR element and/or a TAMR element adapted for assisting recording on the medium, the MAMR element having a microwave-generating portion that receives current for operation thereof, the TAMR element having a localized heat-generating portion that receives current for operation thereof, and a read element adapted for reading data from the medium, a device adapted for measuring environmental conditions relating to the TAMR/MAMR elements and the medium, and a controller adapted for controlling operation of the magnetic head and adjusting operating parameters of the system based on the environmental conditions. Abstract: An emergency message handling system manages emergency SMS text messages sent by mobile stations. The system also includes an emergency handling platform comprising an SMS gateway server, an SMS application server, and an SMS-To TTY message converter. In response to an emergency SMS text message received via a mobile communication network, the emergency handling platform determines the location of the mobile station and identifies the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) assigned to cover the location of the mobile station. If the PSAP assigned is only TTY compatible, the text message is converted to TTY. A TTY selective router is configured to deliver each of converted emergency SMS text message in TTY format to the TTY messaging system of the TTY PSAP. However, if the PSAP assigned is IP network compatible, then the text message is delivered directly to the IP compatible PSAP without any TTY conversions.

Abstract: A pipe support is disclosed for restraining a pipe at a position in close proximity to a joint formed by the pipe and a pipe fitting. The pipe support includes a base configured to be secured to a support surface and to interface with an outer surface of the pipe. The pipe support also includes a clamp operable with the base to restrain the pipe. Additionally, the pipe support includes a hinge coupling the base and the clamp, operable to facilitate relative movement between the base and the clamp. The base positions the outer surface of the pipe at a pre-determined distance from the support surface sufficient to at least offset a distance between the outer surface of the pipe and an outer surface of the pipe fitting, thereby preventing a bending load from occurring at the joint upon securing the pipe support to the support surface.

Abstract: A manner for stabilizing the shield domain structure is described that employs the magnetic field of a hard bias layer. More particularly, it has been found that the shield domain structure is stabilized when the height of the hard bias layer in the depth direction is made substantially half the height of upper shield layer. In another embodiment of the invention, a stabilizing structure is provided at approximately the midpoint of the shield in order to fix the closure domain of the shield to the desired two-domain structure. In an embodiment of the invention, the stabilizing structure is made convex or concave as viewed from the air-bearing surface.

Abstract: A sports electronic training system with sport ball, and applications thereof, are disclosed. In an embodiment, the system comprises at least one monitor and an electronic processing device for receiving data from the at least one monitor and providing feedback to an individual based on the received data. The monitor can be a motion monitor that measures an individual's performance such as, for example, speed, pace and distance for a runner. Other monitors might include a heart rate monitor, a temperature monitor, an altimeter, et cetera. In an embodiment, a sport ball that includes a motion monitor for monitoring motion of the sport ball stores an identification value received when a shoe that includes a motion monitor contacts the sport ball. The stored identification value serves as a record of the contact.
