Abstract: A system for detecting a position of an object includes a position sensor and a demodulator. The position sensor receives a first excitation signal, senses a displacement of the object with respect to a reference point based on the first excitation signal, and generates first and second sense signals based on the first excitation signal. The demodulator receives the first sense signal and the second sense signal from the position sensor, performs a first cross-correlation calculation between the first sense signal and a second excitation signal and a second cross-correlation calculation between the second sense signal and the second excitation signal, determines displacement of the object with respect to the reference point based on results of the first and second cross-correlation calculations, and determine a position of the object based on the displacement.
Abstract: Method and system for assigning addresses to end point devices in a network includes placing a mobile device in close proximity to a first end point device and establishing a wireless connection, transmitting an auto-addressing command from the mobile device to the end point device in response to the connection being established and disconnecting the connection in response to the end point device being configured with the network address. As the mobile device is moved through the system, when the wireless signal strength between the mobile device and a respective the end point device exceeds a threshold, both devices recognize that they are in close proximity and the mobile device transfers the address configuration information to the end point device. By moving the mobile device through the system the steps are automatically repeated until the mobile device assigns address and location information to each end point device on the network.
Abstract: Intelligent safety management for a battery is performed by applying a charging voltage to the battery, monitoring an actual charge level of the battery, determining a first charging voltage and a first charge level for the battery for charging the battery, and determining a second charging voltage and a second charge level for the battery that substantially reduces or eliminates a safety hazard associated with the battery. The second charging voltage is less than the first charging voltage and the second charge level is less than the first charge level. The applied charging voltage is limited so that the actual charge level of the battery does not exceed the second charge level.
Abstract: In one aspect, a system for torsional damping of electric traction drives comprises dual Kalman filters to correct for oscillations based on measured traction motor speed and commanded traction motor torque. A first Kalman filter can perform a state space estimate of the shaft torque providing negative feedback to the final torque command in order to eliminate resonant components from the commanded torque and quickly damp external disturbances. A second Kalman filter provides a state space estimation of the load torque or, equivalently, load acceleration. This second Kalman filter can ignore commanded torque and can provide a damping feedback when the wheel speed deviates from the vehicle speed.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an intelligent seat power system in which a plurality of seat nodes are embedded in respective aircraft seats. The seat nodes receive power and commands from a plurality of power supply units, each of which is connected to a cabin management system. The seat nodes are able to monitor and control functionality at the seat, and communicate their status back to the cabin management system.
Abstract: A method, battery module, an energy storage device and a power management system is provided. The capacity of the module and energy storage device is determined during current balancing between cells of the module. The capacity is subsequently used to control power to and from the energy storage device to maintain the energy storage device within a predetermined range of the maximum capacity of the energy storage device. The determined capacity is used as a maximum capacity for the energy storage device.
Abstract: A portable generator system provides power to a load source including an engine and a generator. The engine drives the generator to provide a generator alternating current (AC) electrical power output. An energy storage system (ESS) provides an ESS direct current (DC) electrical power output. A first inverter is connected to the generator for receiving the generator AC electrical power output and for providing a DC power output. A second inverter is connected to the first inverter and the ESS for receiving the DC power output from the first inverter and the ESS DC electrical power output for providing an AC power output. A first power mode includes the generator maintaining a first generator power output level corresponding to a specified power requirement of a load source, and the ESS providing an additional first ESS power output level for satisfying the specified power requirement of the load source.

Abstract: A full color LED light for aircraft interiors is described, comprising a housing containing at least three differently colored groups of light emitting diodes, a controller for the groups of light emitting diodes and an alternating current power source. The controller distributes the alternating current to LED groups, providing a desired intensity of each differently colored group, producing a desired blended output color. At least one switching circuit receives input current from the power source, via the controller, and directs current to LED subgroups such that a near optimal voltage drop is maintained, given the varied voltage drops of the LED subgroups, regardless of the input voltage, in light of the voltage rating of the LEDs. Embodiments provide for measurement or estimation of current profiles, thermal profiles, and series resistance, allowing accurate measurement of lumen depreciation over time. Additional embodiments include a feedback circuit to temper input power fluctuations.

Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a discrete time system for detection of oscillations in continuous data. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a discrete time software program for detection of oscillations in continuous data.
Abstract: Various embodiments for detecting a high Intensity radiated field (HIRF) in a line replaceable unit are provided. For example, an internal detector includes at least one antenna attached to a chassis. The at least one antenna is configured and dimensioned to pick up an electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field induces a current in the at least one antenna proportional to a magnitude of the electromagnetic field. The internal detector also includes a circuit configured to generate a DC signal based on the induced current in the at least one antenna and a processing section configured to compare the DC signal with a threshold and output a result of the comparison to a built-in test section. The internal detector may be used to test EMI filter pin connectors of a closed line replaceable unit.

Abstract: An inventive system and method for managing vehicle power is presented. The novel technology provides a means to automatically shutdown a vehicle's engine when conditions are such that engine power is not needed, reducing fuel consumption as well as lowering noise and emissions. A series of conditions are examined to determine whether engine power is needed and hence whether shutdown can be safely performed. The inventive system and method can also determine when power is again needed by the engine and can re-start the engine automatically at such times.

Abstract: Various embodiments for detecting a High Intensity Radiated Field (HIRF) in a Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) are provided. The internal detector may be used to test EMI filter pin connectors of a closed LRU. For example, a method comprises setting a selecting switch to a test connector position, thereby connecting a RF signal generator to a testing connection cable. The method further comprises causing the generator to generate a test signal as input into the testing connection cable, and determining if an internal HIRF detector has detected the signal. If the signal is detected, the method further comprises, for each EMI filter pin connector in the LRU, switching the selecting switch to a corresponding test cable coupled to an EMI filter pin connector, causing the generator to generate the test signal as input into the corresponding test cable; and determining if the detector has detected the signal.
