Abstract: A geolocation system and method uses a single platform for determining a Doppler measurement set of a targeted aircraft or signal of interest. The electronic warfare aircraft and the ejected aircraft expendables technology device determine the Doppler measurement set of the targeted aircraft or other signal of interest. The ejected aircraft expendables technology device is initially tuned to an expected frequency of the target of interest. Re-tuning may take place after an initial signal reading and computation has been performed by the electronic warfare aircraft.

Abstract: Compact scanning techniques that can scan a large degree optical solid angle are disclosed. One particular embodiment is a processor controlled scanner that is capable of a large degree optical solid scan angle. Dual axis scan capability can be provided with a single compact package. A pivoting ball joint on which a mirror assembly is attached is employed. The mirror assembly is operatively coupled to an actuator assembly (e.g., electro-magnets or piezoelectric based actuators). When control voltage is applied to the actuator assembly, the ball joint to moves thereby moving the integrally attached mirror assembly.

Abstract: A safe, reliable and rapid system for the detection of nuclear materials within containers includes the use of pulsed high-intensity gamma rays that can penetrate a container and its contents and can be detected outside the container to provide a display in which high-Z material, including lead, uranium, plutonium and other nuclear substances that absorb gamma rays are detected as black regions on the display. In one embodiment, orthogonal pulsed gamma ray beams illuminate the container from two different directions to provide three-dimensional slices from which the existence and location of nuclear threat materials can be ascertained in as little as four seconds for a 40-foot container.

Abstract: An optical attenuator is included within an aircraft decoy driver system for driving a fiber optic towed decoy system to compensate for variability in the fiber optic connection to the towed decoy system. The attenuator is controlled by a control signal from the towed decoy system and adjusts the link gain based on this feedback control signal to compensate for link loss, which is highly variable and may include losses as a function of cable, connectors and splices, and to maintain a relatively constant gain. To ensure the broadest range of performance, a higher power laser can be used to drive an external Mach Zhender Modulator or an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) prior to the optical attenuator. The result is a fiber optic towed decoy system that is adaptable to various platforms and design configurations without degradation in performance of the towed decoy system.

Abstract: Techniques for multiple access differential M-ary coding applications that can be optionally aided by multiuser detection (MUD) are disclosed. An initial hopped feature decoding is performed to provide data estimates for each user represented in a received co-channel signal. Interference cancellation can then be performed using MUD, thereby providing an interference-cancelled signal. Data estimates remaining are then re-decoded. Iteration on the interference cancellation and re-decoding can be carried out to satisfy a particular rule of iteration, although iteration is not always necessary. The final decoded signal can then be provided to its destination.

Abstract: A QWIP structure is disclosed that includes a graded emitter barrier and can further be configured with a blocked superlattice miniband. The graded emitter barrier effectively operates to launch dark electrons into the active quantum well region, thereby improving responsivity. A graded collector barrier may also be included for reverse bias applications. The configuration operates to eliminate or otherwise reduce image artifacts or persistence associated with dielectric relaxation effect in low-background applications.

Abstract: Conductor segments are positioned within a two conductor transmission line in order to generate microwave pulses. The conductor segments are switchably coupled to one or the other of the transmission lines in parallel. Microwave pulses may be induced in the transmission line by closing the switches in a controlled manner to discharge successive segments into the transmission lines. The induced waves travel uninterrupted along the transmission lines in a desired direction.

Abstract: Honey pots are used to attract computer attacks to a virtual operating system that is a virtual instantiation of a typical deployed operational system. Honey nets are a collection of these virtual systems assembled to create a virtual network. The subject system uses a forward deployed honey net combined with a parallel monitoring system collecting data into and from the honey net, leveraging the controlled environment to identify malicious behavior and new attacks. This honey net/monitoring pair is placed ahead of the real deployed operational network and the data it uncovers is used to reconfigure network protective devices in real time to prevent zero-day based attacks from entering the real network.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method utilizing correlation interferometer direction finding for determining the azimuth and elevation to an aircraft at long range and flying at low altitudes above water with a transmitting radar while resolving multipath signals. The signals from the radar are received both directly and reflected from the surface of the water using horizontally polarized and vertically polarized antenna arrays, are digitized and are stored in separate covariant matrices. Eigenvalues for the eigenvectors of the matrices processed on signal samples recorded on horizontally polarized X arrays are compared to the eigenvalues for the eigenvectors of the covariance matrices processed on signal samples recorded on vertically polarized X arrays. Incident field polarization is associated with the antenna array measurements that yield the strongest eigenvalue. The eigenvector and eigenvalues for the strongest signal are selected and used for subsequent signal processing.

Abstract: A nested cavity embedded loop mode antenna is provided with an ultra wide band response by nesting individual embedded cavity meander line loaded antenna modules, with the meander lines coupled to a ground plane plate either capacitively or directly so as to provide as much as a 27:1 ratio of high frequency to low frequency cutoff. The nested meander line structure is exceptionally compact and eliminates the problem of a null in the antenna radiation pattern perpendicular to the face of the antenna, thus to provide a loop type antenna pattern at all frequencies across which the antenna is to be operated. The use of the nested meander line configuration provides a flush mount for the antenna having a footprint associated with the larger of the meander line cavities and thus the lowest frequency of operation, the nesting precluding the necessity of providing separate side-by-side meander line loaded antennas which would increase the real estate required.

Abstract: A system is presented that provides real-time performance for iterative multi-user detectors, such as Turbo MUDs, which are used to separate simultaneous transmissions on the same frequency, by permitting the MUD to use a less computationally intense, fast-processing algorithm and to correct for errors caused by the fast processing. In order to reduce the errors, a voting system is coupled to the output of the multi-user detector within the iterative system. The voting system provides confidence values on a bit-by-bit basis for the estimates made by the multi-user detector, with the confidence values then being utilized as soft inputs to a bank of conventional single-user decoders.

Abstract: A method for identifying hostile missile launch locations is disclosed. In response to a receipt of a message containing information regarding a hostile missile had been launched at an aircraft, a determination is made as to whether or not a tail number contained within the message is a valid tail number for the aircraft. If the tail number contained within the message is a valid tail number for the aircraft, another determination is made as to whether or not the aircraft was at a valid location at the time the message was sent. If the aircraft was at a valid location at the time said message was sent, pertinent information are retrieved from the message in order to identify the exact launch location of the hostile missile.
