Abstract: Techniques are provided for geolocation of a radar emitting source. A methodology implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes calculating time difference of arrival (TDOAs) of ground emitter radar pulses, within a dwell period, between two long baseline interferometer (LBI) antennas. The TDOA calculations are based on a precision estimate of the time of arrival of the radar pulses. The method further includes calculating an LBI phase wrap disambiguation factor based on (1) the TDOAs, (2) an average of frequencies of the radar pulses within the dwell period, and (3) an average of phase shifts of the radar pulses between the LBI antennas within the dwell period. The method further includes mapping a curve of points onto the surface of the earth based on an LBI cone angle calculation employing the LBI phase wrap disambiguation factor. The curve of points is associated with a geolocation of the ground emitter.

  • Patent number: 10749557
Abstract: A system and method for adaptive spurious signal (spur) processing at a broadband RF receiver. Spur processing addresses the detection of spurs generated by the receiver when high level RF signals are present at its input. The spurs can lead to undesired false detections. Based on signal parameters of the received RF signal, the system detects a strong enough real signal that would cause a spur and prevent generation of false reports. The adaptive spur mitigation scheme uses multiple detection and report thresholds to enable false report rejection with an improved high probability of rejecting false detections, while minimizing the adverse effects on multi-tone dynamic range. The necessary detection and report thresholds are generated based on a system level behavioral model that predicts the performance of several different types of spurs as a function of signal parameters. The thresholds are tuned to match the behavior of the dominant spur.

  • Publication number: 20200256622
Abstract: A transducer system includes a housing, an electromechanical transducer within the housing, a wicking material adjacent to a portion of the electromechanical transducer, and a coolant solution within the housing. The coolant solution transitions from a liquid phase to a gaseous phase in response to a temperature of the electromechanical transducer exceeding a threshold temperature. In some example cases, the coolant solution has a boiling point of less than about 60° C., which effectively defines the threshold temperature. The coolant solution may be chosen such that it remains a liquid during a first phase (cooling via conduction), and then evaporates during a second phase (cooling via conduction and convection) as the electromechanical transducer heats up.

  • Publication number: 20200256643
Abstract: A guidance system for deployment on-board a projectile includes a laser-seeking detector, an imaging device, and a control module. The laser-seeking detector is designed to detect the position of the projectile with reference to a laser spot on a target. The imaging device is designed to capture one or more images in front of the projectile. The control module is designed to control a flight direction of the projectile based on input received from the laser-seeking detector in a first mode, control the flight direction of the projectile based on input received from the imaging device in a second mode, and switch between the first mode and the second mode while the projectile is in flight towards the target. Both guidance technologies are leveraged to develop an improved guidance technique that provides highly accurate targeting and allows for a faster rate of fire to deal with multiple targets.
