  • Patent number: 11117650
Abstract: A control system (200) using fixed point computation avoids overflow conditions by limiting the internal quantities ensuring that contributing calculations from various parts of the control loop never add up to an overflow. Various parts of a control loop e.g. proportional terms can be prioritised over other parts, e.g. integral and differential terms and ensuring that the overall total resulting when the separate terms are summed together never exceeds the maximum or minimum imposed limits. Variable limit calculator circuits (211,219) revise the limits according to the output of the higher priority control path(s). The revised limits cascade down through each contributor, eventually allowing the lowest priority control path the smallest authority. The control system may be applied to control of a drive motor (111) for an aircraft inceptor (103).

  • Patent number: 11119991
Abstract: A data storage and retrieval system for a computer memory for maintaining a database for product life cycle support (PLCS database). A computer system receives data exchange packets comprising data fields and populated with data according to different respective database schema and selects optimal data from amongst the packets. A master data exchange packet is formed comprising common field headers and the optimal data in data fields of the master data exchange packet. The system maps the common field headers to corresponding field headers of the PLCS database schema, and loads the optimal data of the master data exchange packet into the PLCS database according to the mapped PLCS field headers.

  • Publication number: 20210279620
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for determining a probability that an encountered platform was of a specific type given that a plurality of emitters exist on the platform and each emitter has a computed probability that it is of each of a set of types. A preprocessing stage operates on a description of the environment and determines the probability of a set of events that are independent of any observation. A runtime processing stage uses the terms computed in the preprocessing stage along with data assembled from a set of observations to determine the conditional probability that a particular platform type was the type encountered.

  • Publication number: 20210278174
Abstract: The fuse mode of a laser guided munition is remotely set and/or changed by encoding fuse mode information onto fuse mode designating light received by the light detector of the munition. Embodiments do not require hardware modification of existing munitions and/or control systems. The mode designating light can be the target designating laser light, and the fuse mode information can be encoded together with counter counter measure (CCM) information. Or the mode designating light source can be a separate laser or non-laser light source. Encoding of the fuse mode information can be by modulation and/or wavelength selection of the mode designating light. In embodiments, the fuse mode can be selected before and/or after launch of the munition.

  • Publication number: 20210282272
Abstract: A ball grid array device includes a monitoring circuit of inactive solder joints and a processor such as a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or other processor capable of determining the open or closed status of the monitoring circuit. The monitoring circuit traverses one or more of the solder joints between components being joined, such as a printed circuit board and an integrated circuit device. In certain embodiments, the inactive solder joints may be located within regions of the ball grid array that are predisposed to failure, such as at the periphery or corners of the printed circuit board, or proximate to regions that experience a broad range of operating temperatures. The failure of a solder joint within the monitoring circuit can be used to schedule maintenance of the ball grid array device prior to failure of an active solder joint.

  • Publication number: 20210278684
Abstract: An optical assembly includes a plurality of polarizing beamsplitters (PBS) including a first PBS and a second PBS. Each PBS includes a similar splitting optical coating. The splitting optical coating on the second PBS is oriented as rotated 90° relative to the splitting optical coating on the first PBS. There may be a third PBS offset to another side of the first PBS. The splitting optical coating on the third PBS, which is similar to the splitting optical coating on the first PBS and the second PBS, is oriented as rotated 90° relative to the splitting optical coating on the first PBS. The splitting optical coatings on the second PBS and the third PBS may be oriented in the same direction. A beamsplitting assembly may be formed from the optical assembly by coupling image sensors to major surfaces of the second PBS and the third PBS.

  • Patent number: 11112860
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for determining the orientation of an object relative to a platform likely to be exposed to buffeting. The object may be a helmet worn by a pilot in which orientation of the helmet relative the aircraft while in flight may usefully be known, in particular when determining the position of space-stabilised symbols being displayed in an associated helmet-mounted digital display system. According to the method, not only may orientation of an object may be predicted at some time ahead of a time point of validity of source sensor data, but the prediction may be dynamically configured to according to a detected severity of buffeting to reduce the effects of the buffeting upon the quality of data output by the system. The method includes measuring the severity of any buffeting using the same source data as used to determine orientation of the object.
