  • Patent number: 4705057
Abstract: A device for cleaning the heat-exchanging surface of a storage medium of a regenerative heat exchanger which has a rotatably driven hood. The device utilizes rinsing or cleaning fluid which is discharged from at least one spray nozzle essentially parallel to the planes of the heat-exchanging surfaces. The spray nozzles are movable relative to the storage medium. In order to provide a structurally simple, light-weight cleaning device which can be housed in a space-saving manner, the spray nozzle is disposed at the end of an at least two-part, telescopic nozzle holder which is mounted on the hood of the regenerative heat exchanger and is connected by a supply line with a transfer mechanism disposed in the center of rotation of the hood. The transfer mechanism includes a tubular piece which rotates with the hood, and a stationary housing which is sealed off relative to the tubular piece. The adjustment movement of the movable part of the nozzle holder can be derived from the rotational movement of the hood.

  • Patent number: 4690207
Abstract: A natural-draft cooling tower having a plurality of preferably roof-shaped heat exchange elements for condensing the turbine exhaust steam from a power plant. A portion of the heat exchange elements are connected to operate as condensers, and another portion of the heat exchange elements are connected to operate as dephlegmators, reflux condensers or fractionating columns, with the latter being disposed downstream, when viewed in the direction of flow of the steam, of the heat exchange elements that operate as condensers. In order to assure a complete condensation, and a residual condensation in the heat exchange elements that operate as reflux condensers, under all weather and load conditions, the heat exchange elements that operate as reflux condensers are each provided with a respective fan, the conveying capacity of which can be regulated.

  • Patent number: 4651809
Abstract: A regenerative heat exchanger having a heat-exchanging storage medium which is provided with a plurality of flow channels. At each end there is provided a respective hood, which divides the storage medium via radial sealing members into at least one portion which receives heat-emitting gases, and at least one portion which receives heat-absorbing gases, with said portions, as a result of a continual relative rotation between the storage medium and the hood, alternately receiving the two types of gases. Sealing members are also disposed along the periphery between the hoods and a housing which accommodates the storage medium. In order to simplify the construction, reduce the amount of space required, and to improve the efficiency and avoid periodic down times for cleaning and in particular the leading edges of the storage medium, the radial sealing members are embodied as sealing strips which rest yieldingly directly against the respective planar end face of the storage medium.

  • Patent number: 4580401
Abstract: A forced-air cooled condenser system having a plurality of heat exchange elements, preferably roof-shaped heat exchange elements with a steam distribution line which forms the ridge of the elements. Cooling air is supplied to the heat exchange elements via fans. The heat exchange elements are disposed directly next to a turbine housing, and are disposed parallel to one another. In order to prevent the danger of a recirculation of the warm air which emerges from the heat exchange elements, a concentrated air draft in the form of a sort of aerodynamic wall is blown out along at least that edge of the condenser system which extends parallel to the turbine housing. The velocity of flow of the air draft is greater than the exit velocity of the cooling air from those heat exchange elements which are disposed in the middle.

  • Patent number: 4550570
Abstract: A forced-air cooled condenser system having a plurality of roof-shaped heat exchange elements of finned tubes, to which cooling air is supplied via fans, and to which the steam which is to be condensed is supplied via a steam distribution line which forms the ridge of the elements. The heat exchange elements, which are located directly adjacent to the turbine housing, are disposed next to one another or side by side. The ridges of the heat exchange elements are disposed parallel to one another. In order to prevent the danger of a recirculation of the warm air which leaves the heat exchange elements, that heat exchange element which is spaced the furthest from the turbine housing is disposed higher than the heat exchange elements which are located therebetween. This is preferably accomplished via higher supports than exist for the heat exchange elements located therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4514344
Abstract: Apparatus for the mixing of different streams of air and particularly dry and moist streams of air, in a cooling tower. In order to obtain an effective low-loss mixing over a short flow path by simple means, eddy fields are produced by at least one cylindrical flow body arranged transversely to the direction of flow of one of the streams of air (the main air stream) in the cooling tower as a result of the burbling or separation of the flow on the sides of the body. The transverse components of the eddy fields produce an intensive mixing of the different streams of air.

  • Patent number: 4498786
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and devices for mixing at least two individual streams having different variables. In order to produce a low-loss, effective mixing within a short flow section, at least one eddy impulse is produced in the cross section of flow of at least one individual stream, which impulse spreads out downstream transverse to the direction of flow to form a discrete eddy system whose components transverse to the main direction of flow overlap into the other flow cross section of the other individual stream. This eddy impulse can be produced either by at least one curved surface or by at least one edge of a surface or of a body. The eddy impulse is preferably produced by two burble (flow break-away) edges of a delta-shaped insert element which extend at an acute angle to each other.

  • Patent number: 4407064
Abstract: An apparatus invention relates to an apparatus for pulling transverse fins onto a plurality of pipes which are arranged fixed in position alongside of each other by means of carriers the ends of which are operatively supported on respective endless carrier-conveyor chains between a working position engaging the fin plates and a disengagement position releasing the fin plates, the carrier being provided with at least one support foot which holds the carrier in the working position. The support foot is supported on support members of a control device which holds the carriers in the working position on the transport path until release of the transverse fins and releases them for swinging depending on the fin spacing and the transverse fins which have already been pulled-on, the point of release moving in a direction opposite the direction of movement of the carrier conveyor chains.

  • Patent number: 4328176
Abstract: An apparatus for damping the noise of water charged in a cooling tower onto the top of heat exchanger elements by a distributing device and dropping down from the bottom of the heat exchange elements into a collecting basin, by means of vertically inclined impact surfaces of rigid insert elements which are arranged above the collecting basin in the cooling tower. In order to avoid the direct impingement of drops of water onto the surface of the water without impairing access to the collecting basin even with a greatly varying level of water, the lower edge of the rigid impact surfaces is arranged above the maximum water level in the collecting basin and extended by a flexible guide tail which extends into the water of the collecting basin with a minimum water level. This guide tail can be pushed aside and held out of the way upon cleaning and continuously diverts the water film into the vertical direction so that a noisy separation of the water film is made impossible.

  • Patent number: 4218408
Abstract: A cooling tower with corrugated ripple plate for a substantially vertical assembly in wet cooling towers or combined wet-dry cooling towers in counter-flow or cross-flow construction, of which the portion at the upper end, the corrugation and the spacing relative to the respective adjacent equally-formed ripple plates are formed such that cooling water which is distributed from a distribution device above the ripple plate ripples running down on both surfaces of the ripple plates as substantially uniform thickness water films, the latter being collected in water collector channels arranged at the lower ends of the ripple plates and being fed to a cooling water circuit. One water collector channel is attached on the lower edge of the ripple plates on each side thereof for collecting the water adjacent the lower ends of the ripple plates, from which the collected water is fed back to the cooling water circuit to the distributor device.
