Patents Assigned to Balcke-Durr Aktiengesellschaft
  • Patent number: 4103408
Abstract: A method for the cold rolling of narrow flat lands on the cylindrical surface of heat exchanger tubing, just prior to the winding onto the tubing of one or more metal strips for the production of finned tubing, the device having pressure rollers on pressure levers carried by a journalled supporting spindle which rotates with the tubing, and a control sleeve inside the hollow spindle which, under the action of a linear actuator, interrupts the rolling action as desired, while the winding operation continues.

  • Patent number: 4055063
Abstract: An apparatus for the expansion of tube ends inside of a tube plate by means of a probe insertable in the respective tube ends, the probe forming an annular space with the tube member to be widened by means of two seals spaced from one another, a pump operatively feeding the annular space with a pressure medium for the expansion, and a pressure intensifier for bringing the pressure medium to a required pressure. A medium separator is connected via a back-pressure valve to a secondary-sided space of a primary-sided hydraulic oil driven pressure intensifier. A piston displaceably disposed in the medium separator is biased by a return spring in the medium separator, and the pump feeds the hydraulic oil displacing the piston against the restoring force of the return spring for the filling of the secondary space of the pressure intensifier with an operating medium. The operating medium flows from an operating medium-supply container and another back-pressure valve to the secondary side of the medium separator.

  • Patent number: 4003970
Abstract: An adjustably operable heat transfer system for cooling tower installations, the heat transfer units consisting of a section of only "wet" operating evaporative heat exchanger units and a section of dual-purpose heat exchanger units which are adapted for alternative or simultaneous wet evaporative heat transfer and "dry" convective heat transfer. All units are operated in the wet mode, when the air temperatures are highest, for maximum heat transfer output, but a mixed mode is used, when the air temperature is lowest, dry warm air obtained through convective heat transfer being admixed to the moist warm air obtained through evaporative heat transfer, in order to prevent cloud formation by the latter.

  • Patent number: 3982765
Abstract: A piston pump for displacing a fluid comprises an adjustable stuffing box, at least one packing ring disposed adjacent to the stuffing box, the fluid exerting pressure on, and the stuffing box abutting against the packing ring, a stuffing box housing for holding the stuffing box, a plunger disposed within the stuffing box and in contact with the packing ring, a throttle ring, a compression spring coaxial with the plunger and disposed between the stuffing box and the throttle ring, the stuffing box engaging the throttle ring telescopically, a clearance remaining therebetween, and a limit stop for making contact with the throttle ring disposed on the stuffing box housing.

  • Patent number: 3979810
Abstract: A method of hermetically swaging tubes into the bores of heavy heat exchanger tube plates, by first expansion-swaging the inserted tube end portion under a very high hydraulic pressure and by then roll-swaging a portion of the expansion-swaged length portion, in order to replace the expansion-related tensile stress in the tubes with a compressive prestress, and in order to eliminate annular crevices at the inner edges of the tube plate bores.

  • Patent number: 3977068
Abstract: A device and method for the expansion-swaging of tubes into a tube plate where an expansion core is inserted into the tube and two pressure rings on the core axially delimit a radially very narrow pressure space into which a very highly pressurized fluid is introduced, thereby expanding the tube. The pressure rings are of highly pressure resistant material and are supported by abutment shoulders of inner and outer core guide portions engaging the tube with minimal clearance.

  • Patent number: 3956435
Abstract: A flow grate structure for cooling installations in cooling towers in which several identical square grate units are vertically aligned in a stack, but so oriented, that their offset cell fields and splash plates are staggered in a regular pattern, in which the splash plates cover, in their vertical projection, a major portion of the flow cross section of the grate unit stack.

  • Patent number: 3945106
Abstract: A method of mounting a natural draft cooling tower having a tower mantle suspended on a central support projecting beyond the upper rim of the mantle which is clamped and tightened between a pressure ring at the upper rim of the mantle and a foundation. In order to mount the cooling tower mantle, the pressure ring lying on the ground and coaxially surrounding the central support is suspended on a lifting ring by means of a plurality of supporting cables exceeding in length the radius of the pressure ring. This lifting ring is guided on the central support, suspended on a plurality of pulling elements which are lifted by at least one lifting device detachably connected to the central support, as a mantle section corresponding to the advance of the lifting device is displayed. After the lower rim of the cooling tower mantle has been connected to the foundation, the mantle is tightened by the lifting device.
