Patents Assigned to Balzer und Leybold Deutschland Holding AG
  • Patent number: 5707447
Abstract: A crystal pulling apparatus for producing a crystal boule (17) from a material melted in a crucible (4) has, in a tank (1), a heater (5) surrounding the crucible (4). The tank (1) has in the area of the crucible (4) an annular chamber (8) defined on the heater (5) side by an inner protective wall (6) and connected to the shielding gas outlet (14, 15), and on the outside by an outer protective wall (7) behind which the thermal insulation (10) of the tank (1) is located.

  • Patent number: 5688388
Abstract: Pole shoes (3, 4, 5) of magnetically conductive material are provided inside of a first tubular target (2). Outside the target (2), a magnetic flux guide element (7) is provided, which has three pole shoes (8, 9, 10) directed toward the hollow body (1), which are connected to each other by magnets (12, 13). These magnets (12, 13) transmit the magnetic field through the target (2) to the pole shoes (3, 4, 5) inside the target (2) across narrow gaps (6, 11).

  • Patent number: 5683560
Abstract: A magnetic yoke (22,23) carrying rows of permanent magnets (33,34) and a target (49,50) is connected to a top plate (41,42) by spring bolts (67) which urge the yoke toward the top plate. Rotatable cams (43,44) between the top plate and the yoke are used to adjust the distance between the top plate and the yoke. Clamping bars (37,38) having a claw-like edge parts (59-66) limit the maximum distance and, in a preferred embodiment, hold the target against the yoke.

  • Patent number: 5669652
Abstract: Several finger-like grippers (4) are held and guided in openings or holes (21) in the head part (6) of a housing (20) so they can pivot about axes which are in a common plane transverse to the longitudinal axis (L) of the housing (20). Permanent magnets (11, 12) fixed to the inner ends of the grippers (4) cooperate with an electromagnet (13) provided in the housing (20) above the magnets (11, 12), the magnetic field axis of the electromagnet coinciding with the longitudinal axis (L) of the housing (20). The electromagnet moves the inner ends of the grippers (11, 12) back and forth between two stops (16, 17) depending on the polarity of the electromagnet (13).

  • Patent number: 5652022
Abstract: An area of an insulating strip (3) which is to remain free of metal is covered by an endless cover strip (4), which rests on the insulating strip (3) and travels along with it at the same speed. Before it enters a vapor deposition zone (5), the cover strip is provided with a film of oil on the side facing the metal evaporator (6) and, after the cover strip (4) has passed through the vapor deposition zone (5) and after the cover strip (4) and the insulating strip (3) have been separated from each other, the oil which has been deposited from the vapor phase onto the cover strip (4) is removed by heating the cover strip (4) with a heater (7) installed in the immediate vicinity of the cover strip (4).

  • Patent number: 5616226
Abstract: A pair of parallel elongate targets are fixed with respect to respective plates mounted in a vacuum chamber by means of clamps arranged along the longitudinal sides of each target, and an expandable wedge system between the rear plate and magnetic yokes on the backs of the targets. The wedge system for each target includes a wedge block having ramped surfaces which face outward, a pair of wedge jaws having ramped surfaces which slide against the ramped surfaces of the block, and a screw which draws the jaws together against the ramped surfaces of the block to expand the system and force the plate away from the yoke and fix the entire assembly in the clamps.
