  • Patent number: 5293292
Abstract: A magnetic tape cassette is provided with a raised housing part. The conventional two-part housing of such a cassette is formed by essentially planar housing parts connected to one or more third separate housing parts which can be suitably connected to and/or can connect the planar housing parts. The position of the tape guide elements can be improved for all cassettes of this raised housing part type.

  • Patent number: 5257749
Abstract: Abstract of the Disclosure: A flangeless stackable hub, on which compressing of the inner central bore is to be prevented during the winding up of an information medium in tape form under high winding pressure. According to one embodiment, this is achieved by an outer hub ring having a double-T profile being provided alongside the outer winding area and by there also being elastically deformable annular intermediate elements between outer hub ring and inner hub ring. In the case of another embodiment, variously shaped openings or notches, which are distributed evenly over the entire circumference, are provided on both sides of the hub between outer circumference and inner circumference. In addition, the hub contains alongside its inner circumference on both sides axial deformations, in order to avoid a shifting or twisting when hubs are stacked one on top of the other (FIG. 2, FIG. 4).

  • Patent number: 5256497
Abstract: It has been found that a magnetic tape which may be used in particular for video recording and which has excellent abrasive and cleaning properties for all those parts of the cassette or rather the recording and play-back unit which come into contact with the magnetic layer can be obtained by addition of a non-magnetic powder having a Mohs' hardness of at least 9 and a primary particle size of 0.3 to 2 .mu.m to the magnetic pigment, which has a BET surface of at least 26 m.sup.2 /g, in the magnetic dispersion, the magnetic layer of the magnetic tape having an Ra value of less than 0.02 .mu.m. The best results were obtained with cubic Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 particles added in a quantity of 1.1 to 4.4% by weight, based on the magnetic pigment.

  • Patent number: 5240196
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting and renewed feeding of a running-in web of material, in particular on turning winders, the web (1) of material being pressed by a deflecting roller (5) against an empty winding sleeve (2), which it partially wraps around and, immediately after leaving the winding sleeve, a cutting knife (3), which extends transversely to the run of the web and is held on both sides by guide bands, cutting through the web from its lower side at the cutting point (12) and a feeding brush, firmly connected to the cutting knife, feeding the newly created beginning of the web to the winding sleeve. The entire cutting means can be swiveled away, so that a turning winder can be used to take off a finished-wound roll, fit an empty winding sleeve and turn the means, so that a new winding sleeve is able to be swiveled into the operating position (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5232141
Abstract: A suction roller arrangement for transporting web-form material consisting of a roller body in the form of a hollow cylinder of porous sintered metal, the inner space beneath the looping angle of the web being under reduced pressure. The problem of converting the torque required to transport the web with minimal reduced pressure while, at the same time, protecting the surface of the web is solved by making the pore diameter in the middle cylindrical zone of the roller larger than in the two peripheral zones and by giving the outer cylinder surface of the roller a smooth surface finish by lathe-turning, grinding and polishing. The stator in the inner space of the rotatable roller is polygonal in shape in the region of the looping angle and has different distances from the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5215009
Abstract: An improved calender apparatus for compressing and magnetic recording coating applied thereto, comprises a central roll (1) having a hard surface, around which the magnetic web is wrapped so that one side of the web bears against the central roll, while bearing against the other side of the web are at least three supporting rolls (2) which are distributed evenly around the central roll. With support roll can being rolls linearly displaced, the central roll can be swung out by a jointed lever and the web completely unthreaded. As a result, with two calender apparatuses arranged in series, cleaning of one apparatus is possible while production is not interrupted. The radius of the central roll is less than the radius of the supporting rolls, resulting in a higher linear pressure; in addition, the central roll may be made or mounted in such a way that it is flexible, in order to compensate in this way for unevennesses of the supporting rolls or of the coating.

  • Patent number: 5209351
Abstract: A container for tape cassettes is provided with one or more locking elements which comprise one or more ring segments which are roughly adapted to the drive orifice of the cassette. An advantageous embodiment is formed integrally with a web and, preferably, an ejector peg. Overlaps in the edge contour part of a joint and the height of the peg adapted to the internal dimension of the container provide greater stability to lateral compressive forces and forces acting during fall.

  • Patent number: 5176305
Abstract: A device for controlling webs of material, for example photographic films of webs of paper or magnetic tapes, in a so-called twin roller hollow suction means is described, wherein a pressure difference exists between the upper and lower side of the web in the region of the pair of rollers and wherein a respective sealing wedge is arranged according to the invention in the free interior (10) between the rollers (2, 3) on either side outwardly from the outer roller edges such that it passes beneath the edges (17) of the suspended web portion (5), the cross-sectional shape of the rollers is imitated and is at a small distance from the bearing faces of the rollers. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the sealing wedge is hollowed in the shape of a tank and extends transversely to the direction of travel falling away in the direction of the web center (FIG. 3).

  • Patent number: 5108666
Abstract: A process for the production of a recording material consisting of a layer support and one or more recording layers cast thereon, for example a magnetic layer or photographic layers, is characterized in that the flexible layer support in the form of a tape contains at least one liquid crystalline polymer. The recording material thus produced is distinguished by excellent properties and in addition affords the advantage that after production of the layer support, the recording layers can be applied on line at a high casting velocity by means of known casting processes.

  • Patent number: 5086919
Abstract: A novel packaging for several tape-form recording media (5) wound on reel cores (6) or spools provided with internal bores consists of two pallets (1, 2) and optionally hubs (3) which are raised in the axial center (10) and of which the diameter corresponds to the clear internal diameter of the bores of the reel cores (6). The packaging can be sealed by a shrink film (4) which can be pulled thereover. The cuboid pallets (1, 2) which can be joined together have groove-like notches (7) at their edges, the interior of the pallets reproduces the outer shape of the pancakes (5) and the weld seam (8) of the shrink film (4) is formed in one of the notches (7). The pallets (1, 2) also have window-like cutouts (9) on their four narrow sides. Pallets as well as the hub (3) passing through the axial center (10) of the pancakes are preferably composed of Styropore (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5069931
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium consisting of a flexible layer support and a magnetic layer consisting predominantly of magnetic particles finely divided in a binder and nonmagnetic additives applied to the layer support is obtained with improved orientation of the magnetic pigments by adding a dispersion stabilizing component to the magnetic dispersion at a uniform rate over the whole period of dispersion. Highly purified lecithin or a mixed ester of a polyethoxy phosphate ester or ethylene diaminodistearate, a polyurethane resin containing sulphonate groups or a vinyl chloride/vinyl alcohol copolymer is preferred as stabilizing additive.
