Abstract: An electrodeposition coating composition is described comprising:(a) an aqueous dispersion of a water-dispersible, electrically-depositable, at least partially neutralized cationic resin, and(b) polymer microparticles, said polymer particles being prepared by:(1) blending an acid-neutralized tertiary amino-functional acrylic polymer and a polyepoxide,(2) dispersing the blended mixture in an aqueous medium to form a dispersion of microparticles of the blended mixture, and(3) heating the dispersion to crosslink the acrylic and polyepoxide in the microparticles.
Abstract: Copolymers are prepared from monoethylenically unsaturated monomers containing acid groups and N-vinyllactams and, if required, other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers by copolymerization of monomers in the presence of free radical polymerization initiators by a solution polymerization method in water at a pH of at least 6, by a process in which an alkali metal base or an alkaline earth metal base or a mixture thereof is used for establishing the pH of the aqueous reaction solution.

Abstract: A process for removing aluminum ions from beer or juice, in which the beer or fruit juice is contacted with from 5 to 2500 g per 100 l of a polymer which contains, as copolymerized units, from 50 to 99.5% by weight of at least one basic vinyl heterocycle having a pK.sub.a of at least 3.8 and from 0 to 49.5% by weight of another copolymerizable monomer, and which was prepared in the absence of oxygen and polymerization initiators and in the presence of from 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the monomers, of a crosslinker.
Abstract: It has been found that 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a) may be used alone or in combination with water as blowing agents in flexible integral skin foams. Foams prepared using HFC-134a alone or in combination with water exhibit physical characteristics such as resistance to abrasion and cracking on flex comparable to conventional chlorinated fluorocarbon blown foams. The foams of the present invention are suitable for use in shoe sole applications.
Abstract: A process for preparing polyacetals by copolymerization of glyoxylic esters with other copolymerizable monomers in the presence of anionic or cationic polymerization initiators, with or without the introduction of stable end groups and with or without hydrolysis of the copolymerized units of glyoxylic ester present in the copolymer comprises using as monomers cyclic formals derived from diols, homopolymers of formaldehyde, trioxepane or mixtures thereof, although up to 50% by weight of this group of monomers may be replaced by other customary copolymerizable monomers, and the poly(acetal-carboxylate)s thus obtainable are useful as additives in reduced-phosphate and phosphate-free detergents and cleaners, as water treatment agents and as dispersants for finely divided substances.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of two-coat finishes, in which a pigmented aqueous basecoat is applied, the basecoat obtained is coated over with a clearcoat, and basecoat and clearcoat are baked together. Abstract: There is now provided a polyisocyanate-based foam made by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyol solution containing a C.sub.4 -C.sub.7 aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon as a blowing agent. Abstract: There is now provided a carbodiimide or polycarbodiimide of the formula: ##STR1## where the R radicals are identical or different and are selected from the group consisting of --NHCONHR.sup.1 --, --NHCONR.sup.1 R.sup.2 --, and --NHCOOR.sup.3 --, where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be identical or different and are alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aralkyl, and R.sup.3 is identical to R.sup.1 or is alkoxypolyoxyalkylene, and n is an integer from 0 to 10.There is also provided an ester containing plastic which contains this carbodiimide as an anti-hydrolysis agent. The plastics may be a polyurethane cellular or non-cellular elastomer or thermoplastic.
