Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for heat integration in the preparation of saturated C3-C20-alcohols, in which a hydrogenation feed comprising at least one C3-C20-aldehyde is hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogen-comprising gas in a hydrogenation zone and a discharge is taken off from the hydrogenation zone and subjected to distillation in at least one distillation column to give a fraction enriched in saturated C3-C20-alcohols.

Abstract: Novel herbicide-resistant sunflower plants designated as MUT31 and herbicide-resistant descendents thereof are provided. The MUT31 sunflower plants and the herbicide-resistant descendents thereof comprise increased resistance to at least one imidazolinone herbicide, when compared to wild-type sunflower plants. Abstract: Paper or cardboard packaging produced from recycled paper contaminated by mineral oil, where the packaging includes a barrier layer obtained by applying an aqueous polymeric dispersion containing a mixture of at least two polymers A and B. Polymer A is obtained by emulsion polymerization of C1-C4 alkyl(meth)acrylates, acid monomers, e.g., acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, 0-20 wt % of acrylonitrile and 0-10 wt % of further monomers, where the glass transition temperature of copolymer A is greater than +45° C. and the glass transition temperature of polymer B is less than +10° C. The mean value calculated from the glass transition temperatures of the individual polymers is +10 to +45° C. The barrier layer may be situated on one of the surfaces of the packaging or form one of multiple layers of a multilayered packaging coating or be situated as a coating on one side of an inner bag situated within the packaging.

Abstract: An ?,?-unsaturated aldehyde and/or an ?,?-unsaturated carboxylic acid are prepared by gas phase oxidation of alkene with molecular oxygen over a fixed catalyst bed comprising a bed of hollow cylindrical shaped catalyst bodies having a multimetal oxide active composition. The fixed catalyst bed comprises at least three successive reaction zones; the highest local temperature in the fixed catalyst bed does not occur in the reaction zone closest to the reactor outlet; the highest local temperature in the fixed catalyst bed does not occur in the reaction zone closest to the reactor inlet; and the value WT=(ED?ID)/2 in the reaction zone in which the highest local temperature in the fixed catalyst bed occurs is lower than in the other reaction zones, in which ED is the external diameter and ID is the internal diameter of the shaped catalyst body. The yield of the products of value is enhanced in this way.

Abstract: A hollow cylindrical shaped catalyst body for gas phase oxidation of an alkene to an ?,?-unsaturated aldehyde and/or an ?,?-unsaturated carboxylic acid comprises a compacted multimetal oxide having an external diameter ED, an internal diameter ID and a height H, wherein ED is in the range from 3.5 to 4.5 mm; the ratio q=ID/ED is in the range from 0.4 to 0.55; and the ratio p=H/ED is in the range from 0.5 to 1. The shaped catalyst body is mechanically stable and catalyzes the partial oxidation of an alkene to the products of value with high selectivity. It provides a sufficiently high catalyst mass density of the catalyst bed and good long-term stability with acceptable pressure drop.
