Abstract: A method is provide for preparing potassium metal which comprises embedding a polycrystalline alkali metal ??-Al2O3 moulding in an oxidic powder containing potassium and aluminium of a molar K2O:Al2O3 ratio within the range of 1:(x?1) to 1:(x+1), the weight of oxidic powder amounting to at least two times the weight of the moulding; heating the embedded moulding at a rate of at least 100° C. per hour to at least 1100° C.; and further heating to at least 1300° C., this temperature being maintained for at least one hour prior to cooling.

Abstract: A process for preparing a vanadium, phosphorus, and oxygen comprising catalyst precursor for preparing maleic anhydride by heterogeneously catalyzed gas-phase oxidation of a hydrocarbon having at least four carbon atoms, which comprises (a) reacting vanadium pentoxide with 102% to 110% strength phosphoric acid in the presence of isobutanol and optionally of a primary or secondary, noncyclic or cyclic, unbranched or branched, saturated alcohol having 3 to 6 carbon atoms in a temperature range from 80 to 160° C.; (b) isolating the precipitate formed; (c) (i) drying the isolated precipitate down to a residual isobutanol content of less than 5% by weight; (ii) then passing a gas which in addition to one or more inert gases comprises 0.1% to 9% by volume of oxygen through the dried precipitate, directly or after isolation, in the temperature range from 130° C. to 200° C.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for purifying a reaction output which comprises 3-aminopropanol and is obtained in the reaction of ethylene cyanohydrin with hydrogen in the presence of ammonia, which comprises distilling the reaction output comprising 3-aminopropanol in two or more stages, the ammonia content of the reaction output comprising 3-aminopropanol before introduction into the first distillation stage being 1% by weight or less and the temperature in the distillation stages being not more than 135° C. The invention further relates to a process for preparing 3-aminopropanol by reacting ethylene cyanohydrin with hydrogen in the presence of ammonia, which comprises performing the purification of the reaction output comprising 3-aminopropanol in accordance with the invention.

Abstract: The use of polyelectrolyte complexes is described, for providing an oxygen barrier to packaging materials made of polymer foils. Polymeric components of the polyelectrolyte complex are applied in polymerized form to the polymer foil.
