Abstract: Polyamides based on dicarboxylic acids and on diamines are produced in a batch process by 1) feeding the entire amount of monomer composed of dicarboxylic acids, of diamines, and, if appropriate, of further polyamide-forming monomers, in the desired stoichiometry, in a closed stirred-tank reactor, 2) heating the monomer mixture in the stirred-tank reactor, with stirring, and with setting of a certain pressure, to a desired reaction temperature for the production of a prepolymer, 3) if appropriate, completely or partially depressurizing the reaction mixture from stage 2), 4) if appropriate, carrying out further thermal treatment of the reaction mixture from stage 2) or 3), and 5) reacting the reaction mixture from stage 2), 3), or 4) in the melt in a vented extruder for further increase of the molecular weight, with discharge of water vapor, and without use of additional polyamide-forming monomers or of polyamides.

Abstract: This invention provides a method for purifying a chlorine supply that includes a chlorine component, a bromine component, and nitrogen trichloride. The method includes the steps of introducing the chlorine supply into a vaporizer, heating the chlorine supply in the vaporizer to form a vapor, and introducing the vapor into a distillation system to provide purified chlorine gas, a distillate that includes liquid chlorine and the bromine component, and a bottoms component including the nitrogen trichloride. The method also includes the steps of condensing the vapor in a reflux condenser, heating the condensate in a reboiler, removing the purified chlorine gas from the distillation system, and removing the distillate from the distillation system.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and concerns a method for enhancing various economically important yield-related traits in plants. More specifically, the present invention concerns a method for enhancing yield-related traits in plants by modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding a bHLH9 (basic-Helix-Loop-Helix group 9) polypeptide. The present invention also concerns plants having modulated expression of a nucleic acid encoding a bHLH9 polypeptide, which plants have enhanced yield-related traits relative to control plants. The invention also provides hither-to unknown BHLH9-encoding nucleic acids and constructs comprising the same, useful in performing the methods of the invention. Furthermore, the present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and concerns a method for improving various plant growth characteristics by modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding an IMB1 (Imbibition-inducible 1) polypeptide.

Abstract: A process for preparing lithium-rich metal oxides. The process comprises subjecting a mixture of a metal oxide or a metal oxide with low lithium content and a lithium sulfide in a solid state to a thermal treatment to form a lithium-rich metal oxide and elemental sulfur and subliming off the elemental sulfur. The lithium-rich metal oxides produced from the process may be used as cathode material in lithium ion batteries or electrochemical cells. Suitable metal oxides may be selected from metal oxides of the elements of group Va to VIIa of the Periodic Table and may include vanadium oxides, manganese dioxide, manganese oxide, chromium trioxide, niobium pentoxide, tantalum pentoxide, molybdenum oxides or tungsten trioxide. Metal oxides with low lithium content are metal oxides as defined above which comprise a small amount of lithium, in which the molar ratio of lithium atoms to metal atoms is not more than 1:2.30.
