Abstract: A process for purifying a phenol derivative selected from alkylphenols having a number average molecular weight of from 200 to 4 000 and Mannich adducts thereof is described, in which the phenol derivative is brought into intimate contact with an extracting agent having a polarity ET(30) of from 57 to 38 kcal/mol, a phase containing the phenol derivative and an extracting agent phase are allowed to separate from one another and the extracting agent phase is removed.

Abstract: A process is described for functionalizing isobutene polymers having terminal olefinic unsaturation by treating with the reaction product of a borane source with from 0.5 to 1.8 equivalents of an alkene having a molecular weight of less than 250 per mole of borane or by treating the isobutene polymer with the borane source in the presence of the alkene. The reaction mixtures retain low viscosity and good stirrability.

Abstract: Crude water-containing tetrahydrofuran is purified by passing the crude tetrahydrofuran through three distillation columns, withdrawing water from the bottom of the first column, recycling water-containing tetrahydrofuran from the top of the second column into the first column, passing a sidestream of the first column into the second column, recycling the bottom product of the third column into the first column, and withdrawing a distillate at the top of the first column. Abstract: Olefins having at least 6 carbon atoms are bydroformylated in the presence of a homogenous catalyst in a continuous process in which a) a vertical tall cylindrical reactor (1) whose interior space is divided by means of internals (2). into at least two reaction chambers which extend essentially in the longitudinal direction of the reactor is used, b) at least one olefin is introduced into the reactor together with synthesis gas at the lower end of the first reaction chamber, c) a partially reacted reaction mixture is conveyed from the upper end of a reaction chamber to the lower end of a next reaction chamber; and d) the hydroformylated olefin is taken off at the upper end of the last reaction chamber. The process allows a high conversion at a given reactor volume.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing formic acid formates, whereby (a) formic acid methyl ester is partially hydrolysed with water; (b) formic acid methyl ester and methanol are separated by distillation from the reaction mixture obtained in step (a), forming a current containing formic acid and water; (c) the current obtained in step (b), containing the formic acid methyl ester and optionally methanol, is converted into a current containing formate and water, by (i) reaction with a basic compound having a pKa value of the corresponding acid of the corresponding dissociation step of =3, measured at 25° C. in an aqueous solution, in presence of water, and (ii) separation by distillation of the methanol; and (d) the current obtained in step (b), containing formic acid and water, and the current obtained in step (c), containing formate and water, are combined to form a mixture containing the formic acid formate and water.
