Abstract: In order to align DNA sequence data traces, an experimental data trace representing the positions of a first species of base within a target polynucleotide and a reference data trace representing the positions of a second species of base (which may be the same as or different from the first species) within a reference polynucleotide are obtained by separating appropriate sequencing fragments generated from the target and reference polynucleotides on an electrophoresis gel. For each reference data trace, a plurality of peaks corresponding to fragments having a size in the range of 40 to 1200 bases are selected. A base number is assigned to each of the selected peaks in the reference data trace, and a numerical “peak file” is created with information about the peak number and migration time (or distance).

Abstract: The invention provides for the use of isolated polynucleotides encoding maize poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) proteins to produce eukaryotic cells and organisms, particularly plant cells and plants, with modified programmed cell death. Eukaryotic cells and organisms particularly plant cells and plants, are provided wherein either in at least part of the cells, preferably selected cells, the programmed cell death (PCD) is provoked, or wherein, on the contrary, PCD of the cells or of at least part of the cells in an organism is inhibited, by modulation of the level or activity or PARP proteins in those cells.

The composition contains a resinous blend and a filler component. The resinous blend contains (i) to 50 wt. % of a grafted acrylate rubber, (ii) 2 to 10 wt. % of a first copolymer containing structural units derived from styrene (meth)acrylonitrile and maleic anhydride, (iii) 20 to 80 wt. % polyamide, and (iv) 0 to 40 wt. % of a second copolymer containing structural units derived from styrene and (meth)acrylonitrile, the percents being relative to the total amount of (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv). The filler component of the inventive composition contains 5 to 50 percent of milled glass fibers, the percent being relative to the weight of the molding composition. Optionally, the inventive composition also contains a positive amount of a wollastonite. Abstract: It has been found that casein and salts of casein are useful as replacements for, or in addition to, BSA as materials for coating solid phases, particularly magnetic particles, used for immunoassays and other binding assays for separation of the desired analyte. By using casein, immunoassays having improved stability and few discordant samples have been developed. Casein used at a concentration of 0.05-4.0 grams per gram of paramagnetic particle (optimally approximately 0.78-1.2 grams of casein per gram of magnetic particle) has been found to confer this benefit. In addition, a process for coating solid phases has been invented, said process comprising the mixing of casein with magnetic particles at 30-60° C. for 5-180 hours, said process resulting in casein-coated paramagnetic particles which either (1) already have combined therewith active ingredients needed in the binding assay or (2) are capable of reacting with active ingredients needed in the binding assay.
