  • Patent number: 8121768
Abstract: A powertrain system includes an engine coupled to an electro-mechanical transmission to transfer power between the engine and a plurality of torque generating machines and an output member. The transmission is operative in one of a plurality of operating range states through selective application of torque transfer clutches and the engine is operatively coupled to a main hydraulic pump to supply pressurized fluid to a hydraulic circuit operative to apply the torque transfer clutches. A method for controlling the powertrain system includes determining an output torque request to the output member, determining a pressure output of the main hydraulic pump based upon an engine input speed, calculating a clutch reactive torque capacity for each applied torque transfer clutch based upon the pressure output of the main hydraulic pump, and determining a preferred engine input speed to achieve the clutch reactive torque capacity to meet the output torque request to the output member.

  • Patent number: 8113006
Abstract: A system for cryogenic storage and delivery of fuel, particularly for supplying an internal-combustion engine driving a motor vehicle, includes at least a cryotank having an inner reservoir for receiving the cryogenic medium, which inner reservoir is held in a heat-insulated manner in an outer reservoir, a coolable cooling shield between the inner reservoir and the outer reservoir of the cryotank, and a heat sink. As a thermal-energy storage device, the heat sink is in heat-transmitting contact with the cooling shield. A filling and removal device has at least one pipe penetrating the outer reservoir and leading into the inner reservoir. At least for the filling with or for the removal of cryogenic medium, the heat sink is in heat-transmitting contact with the pipe for the cryogenic medium, in order to reduce the entry of heat from the environment into the inner reservoir while emitting heat.

  • Publication number: 20120034392
Abstract: A method is provided for coating a surface of an Fe-based, hardenable sintered, sinter-forged or forged component, and in particular for internally coating the large end bore of a motor vehicle connecting rod with a bearing coating, wherein the coating material applied to the component surface is converted to a molten state during the coating process. A material bond, which is durable even under high loads, is attained between the coating and the base material of the sintered or forged component without any disturbing residual stresses by a simple manufacturing method due to the fact that during the coating process the component surface is briefly heated in the untreated state of the component above the austenitization temperature to a temperature level having a significantly increased diffusion rate within the limits of the outer edge zone having less carbon for reasons relating to the manufacturing process.
