  • Patent number: 8006492
Abstract: A hydraulic steering system has a steering linkage and an actuator actuating the steering linkage. Pressurized hydraulic fluid can be fed to the actuator and removed from the actuator through a return pipe. A device installed into the return pipe counteracts volume flow pulsations by damming up the hydraulic fluid return flow. The device dams up the hydraulic fluid only in the event of an occurrence of a volume flow pulsation.

  • Patent number: 8007038
Abstract: According to the invention, a side sill of a vehicle body of a motor vehicle comprises an outer shell and an inner shell connected to each other via flanges. A reinforcement is removably attached to the outside of the outer shell, which reinforcement extends essentially over the entire length of the side sill in the vehicle longitudinal direction. By means of this reinforcement, a load introduced onto a point of the side sill is absorbed and distributed. This is especially relevant to achieving better crash characteristics in a side pole crash.

  • Patent number: 8005269
Abstract: A method for image-based driver identification in a motor vehicle is provided. At least one two-dimensional driver facial image is recorded using a camera. Recorded driver facial images are temporarily stored. The temporarily stored driver facial images are compared to two-dimensional reference images of each possible driver from multiple possible drivers of the motor vehicle. The current recording angle between the camera and the facial normal line of the driver is determined by a device not otherwise used for image-based driver identification and relayed to the method for image-based driver identification and the recording of a driver facial image is triggered when the current recording angle reaches a specific preset value.

  • Patent number: 8003246
Abstract: An energy storage device is provided including multiple back-to-back-disposed storage cells, from the first end of which the plus pole is made to emerge and from the other end of which the minus pole is made to emerge, thereby creating a series circuit of the storage cells. In order to reduce fabrication costs, it is proposed that each of the storage cells have a continuous opening between the plus pole and the minus pole, through which opening a guide rod extends that secures the back-to-back-disposed storage cells in this position.

  • Patent number: 7999760
Abstract: A method is provided for a distortion-free display of image elements, which are composed of computer-generated pixels and are reflected on a non-planar reflective surface, in particular a windshield of a motor vehicle. According to this method, pre-distorted image data are calculated by a computer unit in an operating phase as a function of the distortion properties of the reflective surface from the original image data of the image elements in accordance with the display-related pre-distortion parameters and are transferred to a display unit, which projects the image elements onto the reflective surface. In order to obtain the display-related pre-distortion parameters, at least one image element is provided, pre-distorted and projected in the form of original image data in a calibration phase in a procedure that is analogous to the operating phase; and the image data resulting from the projection are recorded using a camera and image processing, and compared with the original image data.

  • Patent number: 8000866
Abstract: An engine is coupled to an input member of a hybrid transmission, the hybrid transmission operative to transfer power between the engine and a second torque machine and an output member. A method for controlling the engine includes monitoring an operator torque request, commanding operation of the hybrid transmission in a continuously variable operating range state, determining engine commands comprising a first engine torque request and a second engine torque request based upon the operator torque request and the operation of the hybrid transmission, determining an engine torque constraint comprising a maximum engine torque based upon a capacity of the hybrid transmission to react the engine torque, and controlling engine operation based upon the first engine torque request only when the second engine torque request exceeds the engine torque constraint.

  • Publication number: 20110190095
Abstract: A method and a corresponding system are provided for automatically turning off an internal-combustion engine in a motor vehicle having an automatic transmission, by use of a start-stop device which automatically turns off the internal-combustion engine when the vehicle is braked to a stopped position and was held in the stopped position for a predefined time interval by operating the brake pedal. Within the predefined time interval after the stopped position was reached, the motor vehicle driver is able to prevent the automatic turning-off of the internal-combustion engine. The turning-off of the internal-combustion engine is prevented when the brake pedal is released by the driver within the predefined time interval.
