Patents Assigned to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG
  • Patent number: 5361865
Abstract: In a motor vehicle having equipment parts in the front-occupant area which can be adjusted on separate sides, two operating modes are possible. In a conventional operating mode, the adjusting of the equipment parts on the front passenger's side takes place individually corresponding to the front passenger's presettings. In the other operating mode, the adjusting of the equipment parts on the front passenger's side takes place synchronously with the adjustment of the equipment parts on the driver's side corresponding to the driver's presettings. The selection of the two operating modes takes place automatically or arbitrarily.

  • Patent number: 5301645
Abstract: A drive assembly, particularly for driving a vehicle, comprises a driving engine and an auxiliary engine as well as auxiliary assemblies which can be selectively driven by one of the engines. In a clear frontal area of the vehicle engine, a single-bank radial engine constructed as an internal-combustion engine is arranged as the auxiliary engine to save space. For achieving a compact, high-powered arrangement, the single-bank radial engine is constructed as a 4-cylinder 2-stroke engine with a crank guide power unit.

  • Patent number: 5283485
Abstract: Small-size motors, particularly vehicle step motors in a system used to adjust vehicle parts, are connected directly with a housing in which an assigned electronic control system is housed. A bus supplies each of the motors or its associated electronic control system with adjusting commands and energy. The housings in which the electronic control systems are housed, are closed off tightly with respect to dust and dirt but not with respect to vapor, so that moisture can diffuse out of these housings. This arrangement permits a simple and operationally reliable construction.

  • Patent number: 5271655
Abstract: A window 3 of the folding top of a convertible, which consists of a transparent flexible plastic material, on its interior side, is provided with a surrounding zipper 2 which, by means of a holding strip 4 and 5, is undetachably fastened to the interior side of a top covering 1 and to the window 3. Furthermore, it is provided on its exterior side with a U-shaped edge bordering 8 made of a rubber-elastic material which, in the installed condition of the window 3, rests sealingly against the edge of the window opening 1' of the top covering 1.

  • Patent number: 5261506
Abstract: In a control device for a passenger safety apparatus, the safety apparatus is triggered by a sensor arrangement which responds to a longitudinal and/or transverse acceleration of the motor vehicle. It is also independently triggerable by an additional state-of-motion or moving-condition sensor which is configured to recognize a near weightless state of the vehicle. The safety apparatus is triggered even in an extremely critical state of motion in which the vehicle moves in a manner similar to free fall.

  • Patent number: 5251535
Abstract: In a process for controlling an actuator which can be adjusted by means of a proportional valve, the proportional valve is controllable by means of two control magnets with control pulses acting in opposite directions. A phase angle between the control pulses is varied as a function of at least one control variable (command variable, correction variable or difference between the amplitudes or pulse durations of the control pulses), i.e. it is reduced as the control variable increases. This measure prevents undesired vibrations of the actuator and resulting noises.

  • Patent number: 5217266
Abstract: A lock with a servomotor, particularly a door lock for a motor vehicle, having a lock latch (fork member 1) which can be shifted between an open position and a detent position. In the detent position, the lock latch (fork member 1) reaches behind a pin 3 which, in the detent position, can be rotated by the servomotor about an eccentric axis from a prelocking position into a main locking position.

  • Patent number: 5189999
Abstract: A device for adjusting a relative angle of rotation of a camshaft with respect to a drive wheel of an internal combustion engine utilizes a hydraulic linear motor for actuation. A hydraulic pump with a pump rotor is axially arranged with respect to a longitudinal or adjustment axis of the linear motor.

  • Patent number: 5168950
Abstract: In a regulating system for the regulation of the driving torque of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, in which wheel slippage occurring at the driven wheels of the motor vehicle are detected according to magnitude and in which the driving torque of the internal combustion engine is reduced, when exceeding a slippage threshold, value by a wheel slippage signal indicating the magnitude of the wheel slippage of a driven wheel, the friction coefficient effective in each case in the wheel circumferential direction is determined as measure for the road condition, and the slippage threshold determinable for the driven wheels is changed in dependence on the respectively determined friction coefficient effective in the wheel circumferential direction.

  • Patent number: 5164709
Abstract: A seat occupancy switching device for motor vehicles having a sensor responding to seat occupancy and an analysis circuit which emits a signal when a seat is occupied. The sensor is a lateral-force-sensitive cable which is arranged in the area of the seat surface. This cable provides a plurality of signal changes occurring continuously during seat occupancy. The analysis circuit registers each change of the sensor output signal as seat occupancy information. This analysis circuit includes a processor that receives the sensor output signal, and a monostable-circuit step.

  • Patent number: 5163319
Abstract: A device for detecting the condition of the surface and adjacent edges of a road by means of electromagnetic radiation. A transmitter emits measuring beam pulses of electromagnetic radiation directed in a linear area of the road. Back scattered radiation from reflection of the measuring beam pulses by features of the road surface and adjacent areas are received and transformed into a time sequence signal. A signal processing and analysis unit analyzes the time sequence signal to identify features and surfaces of the road and their distance from the vehicle.
