  • Patent number: 5635771
Abstract: In the case of an electrical wiring for a motor vehicle having a primary system which includes a voltage-controlled generator, a primary energy accumulator as well as at least one primary energy consuming device, and having a paralleled secondary system which includes a secondary energy accumulator as well as at least one secondary energy consuming device, the secondary system includes a control unit with a controllable resistor connected to the generator. The control unit monitors the charge condition of the secondary energy accumulator. As a function of the currently determined charge condition of the secondary energy accumulator, the control unit, on the one hand, controls the controllable resistor in such a manner that, during the charging of the secondary energy accumulator, the primary system is not overloaded.

  • Patent number: 5626361
Abstract: A roll-over protection arrangement is provided which comprises an approximately U-shaped roll-over bar which can be translationally moved upward and back and which, by means of its downwardly directed legs, is guided by means of guiding elements in a housing. By means of the effect of springs, the roll-over bar can be rapidly changed from its inoperative position which projects hardly beyond the vehicle railing into a supporting position which projects clearly upward beyond the vehicle railing. In order to reduce the overall weight of the installed components as well as of the installed ejecting springs, almost all parts of the roll-over protection arrangement, including at least the legs of the roll-over bar and guiding elements therefor are made of extruded profiles.

  • Patent number: 5622079
Abstract: A selecting device for an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle includes a selector lever which can be swivelled back and forth between two different shifting channels. One shifting channel is for the step-by-step manual shifting of the automatic transmission. The other shifting channel facilitates the automatic operation of the transmission. The selector lever is pivotally mounted for movement in the two shifting channels about a first shaft axis and for movement between the shifting channels about a second shaft axis. The second shaft axis extends along a pivot shaft which is fixedly disposed in a vehicle frame. The first and second shaft axes are congruent when the selector lever is in the shifting channel for automatic operation. Shifting and interlocking devices are integrated in the selecting device.

  • Patent number: 5586432
Abstract: In a device for control of a motor vehicle engine operating at idle with two rows of cylinders, having a catalytic converter with an oxygen sensor associated with each, during operation of the engine at idle the injectors of one of the two rows of cylinders are alternately switched off. This switching of the injector shut-off from one row of cylinders to the other row of cylinders always takes place when the temperature of the catalytic converter associated with the row of cylinders that has just been shut-off falls below a predetermined temperature limit. Alternatively, in a device for control of a motor vehicle engine operating at idle with only one catalytic converter and only one oxygen sensor, during operation of the engine at idle the injectors are sequentially shut-off according to a predetermined program as a function of the engine firing order.

  • Patent number: 5583382
Abstract: A circuit for internal illumination of motor vehicles having a controller, coupled to the internal illumination, that automatically turns the internal illumination on and off as a function of operating state parameters of the motor vehicle according to a predetermined switching program. The controller is a deliberately operable electrical controller. The circuit also includes a control device, coupled to and controlled by the controller, that switches the switching program off and the internal illumination permanently on in response to being controlled by the controller.

  • Patent number: 5576686
Abstract: In the case of a switch arrangement for reducing the closed circuit current when motor vehicles are parked, including a controllable switch for the central disconnecting essentially of all power supply consuming devices from the motor vehicle battery, the electric supply input of an electric anti-theft device is inseparably connected with the motor vehicle battery. The electric anti-theft device receives an input signal corresponding to the position of the controllable switch and queries the position of a manually operable switch for sensitizing and desensitizing the anti-theft device less often when the controllable switch is open than when the controllable switch is closed.

  • Patent number: 5572958
Abstract: A cooling arrangement for a liquid-cooled internal-combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a temperature-controlled thermostatic valve, through which the coolant is completely or partially either guided through the radiator or, through a short-circuit pipe between the forward flow and return flow pipe, is guided past the radiator, with the distance covered by the motor vehicle after the vehicle start being compared with a limit distance. This limit distance is determined such that, when the limit distance is covered in the normal driving operation, the coolant temperature in the coolant circuit of the internal-combustion engine remains well under the opening temperature of the thermostatic valve which is not acted upon by current and therefore under the boiling temperature. The thermostatic valve is acted upon by current from the vehicle start as long as the distance covered after the vehicle start is shorter than the limit distance.

  • Patent number: 5567034
Abstract: In the case of a motor vehicle headlamp comprising a light source, a reflector, a projecting lens, a diffusing lens and a cover plate, it is provided that the diffusing lens has a central opening which is at least partially penetrated by the projecting lens. In certain preferred embodiments, the light source reflector and projecting lens are carried by a movable and adjustable frame, and the diffusing lens and cover plate are fixed in position at a vehicle headlamp mounting recess.

  • Patent number: 5559694
Abstract: In a device for reducing engine torque between the beginning and end of a shift of a transmission in motor vehicles with a control device that detects the beginning of a shift as well as continuously determines the current engine rpm, and calculates in advance the engine rpm anticipated at the end of the shift, the amount of reduction of engine torque between the beginning and end of the shift is regulated in such a manner that a preset engine rpm curve is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5555854
Abstract: In the case of a cooling system for an internal-combustion engine of a motor vehicle comprising a radiator and a thermostatic valve by means of which the temperature of the coolant can be controlled in a warm-up operation, a mixed operation and a radiator operation. The thermostatic valve containing an expansion element can be electrically heated for reducing the coolant temperature, the expansion element being designed such that the coolant temperature is controlled without any heating of the expansion element in the warm-up operation and/or the mixed operation to an upper operating limit temperature. In addition, a temperature switch is provided which, as a function of the coolant temperature detected at the or near the radiator outlet, releases the heating of the expansion element as required in order to shift the method of operation of the cooling system toward the radiator operation.
