  • Patent number: 6973053
Abstract: A communications system has stations arranged in clusters (1a, 1b and 1c) of communication member stations (CM2, CM3, CM6 and CM7), with one member station (CH1, CH4 or CH5) in each cluster being a head station for the cluster. Each member station (CM2, CM3, CM6 and CM7) communicates with the network through a cluster head station (CH1, CH4 or CH5). The cluster head stations (CH1, CH4 and CH5) communicate among other cluster head stations (CH1, CH4 and CH5). A mobile communications station (e.g., CM3) evaluates a beacon message received from a first member station (e.g., CM6) of the plurality of mobile stations through a transceiver 6. The station CM3 also determines whether to communicate with the first member station CM6 directly or to communicate with the first member station CM6 by forwarding messages through a cluster head station CH1 that is affiliated to the mobile communications station CM3.

  • Patent number: 6970554
Abstract: An observation system for observation calls to a call center includes an automatic call director (ACD) unit, an interactive voice response (IVR) unit, and a recorder unit. The ACD receives incoming calls to the call center and also queues and switches the calls to various lines of the call center. The IVR unit is connected to the ACD unit and interacts with a caller via an interactive computer program in which the caller enters a response to a prompt and the response causes the interactive program to provide the caller with information or another prompt. The recorder unit records calls to the call center from beginning to end, including prompts made by the IVR unit, callers responses to the prompts, and information provided by the IVR unit to the callers.

  • Patent number: 6944127
Abstract: According to the principles of the invention, there is provided a system, apparatus, and method for detecting spurious network traffic. In a system according to the principles of the invention, a switch such as a router constructs a routing tree for each other switch connected thereto. When a network packet is received, the switch inspects the source address of the packet, and determines whether the forwarding switch or network interface could be expected to deliver a network packet from the indicated address. If it appears from this analysis that the network packet should not have come from the forwarding switch, then certain measures may be taken to address the situation. For example, the network packet may be dropped, an alarm may be generated to the forwarding switch, or an alarm may be generated to an automated or human network supervisor.

  • Patent number: 6914966
Abstract: Schemes for routing a call using caller identification are described herein. These schemes are termed “real caller ID” and can be capable of determining the identity of a calling party independent of a telephone number from which the call originated. According to one exemplary embodiment, a method of routing a call from a calling party to a receiving party may include accessing a database containing a plurality of voice templates of prior calling parties. Each voice template may have correlated therewith a call disposition parameter defined by the receiving party. Next, a voice response from the calling party may be compared with one of the plurality of voice templates stored in the database. Subsequently, the call may be routed to the receiving party based on a match between the voice response and the one of the plurality of voice templates.

  • Patent number: 6910135
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for improving the security of computer networks by providing a means operating passively on the network for detecting, reporting and responding to intruders. The system is comprised of a plurality of intruder sensor client computers and associated event correlation engines. Resident in the memory of the client computer and operating in the background is a Tactical Internet Device Protection (TIDP) component consisting of a passive intruder detector and a security Management Information Base (MIB). The passive intruder detector component of the TIDP passively monitors operations performed on the client computer and emits a Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) trap to an event correlation engine when it identifies a suspected intruder. The event correlation engine, through the use of a behavior model loaded in its memory, determines whether the user's activities are innocent or those of a perspective intruder.

  • Patent number: 6901030
Abstract: The methods and systems relate to tracking targets, and more particularly to tracking multiple targets within a field of densely distributed sensor nodes using wave processing/analysis methods applied to “target-waves” in an observable physical phenomena. The “target-waves” are target induced perturbations of a physical phenomena that are analogous to a propagating wave where the wave propagation velocities are equal to the target velocities. The term “target” refers to an individual object, or a group of objects that can be treated as an entity, whose position, speed, direction, separation, etc. is of interest to a user. Some examples, not exclusive, are military vehicles (e.g. tanks) along a road, people on sidewalks or in halls, and ships at sea.

  • Patent number: 6895083
Abstract: A system and method for routing telephone calls is based on identifying caller goals, and maximizing the benefit of routing the call to the appropriate call center. The appropriate call center is identified as the call center best equipped to respond to the needs of the caller. The cost or benefit is based on the fastest and least expensive way to answer a query posed by a caller. A probabilistic model of the caller's goals or call topics based on a response to a top-level prompt is used, along with a set of functions associating a utility or benefit with routing those call topics to destinations within the center. Maximum benefit routing allows for the separation of the caller's goals from those of the call center, thereby optimizing use of available resources.
