  • Patent number: 9600030
Abstract: Systems, articles, and methods for elastic electrical cables are described. An elastic electrical cable includes a molded band of elastomer with a length that follows a tortuous path including a number of semi-rigidly set changes in direction. The elastomer band is formed by an overmolding process to enclose or at least partially contain a flexible printed circuit board, with various access points provided to electrically couple to/from the flexible printed circuit board. An annular wearable electric device employing at least one such elastic electrical cable as an adaptive coupler that simultaneously provides both electrically conductive coupling and adaptive physical coupling is described. Methods of preparing/manufacturing such elastic electrical cables are also described.

  • Publication number: 20170072139
Abstract: A device, method, and system are provided for monitoring the delivery of fluids through a drip chamber. The device includes an electromagnetic radiation (EMR) source and an EMR detector. A device body is employed to position the source and detector about the drip chamber so that the source and detector define an optical path across the drip chamber. A processor device is employed to detect fluid drops from differences between detector signal values separated by a lag time. The flow rate is determined from a drip factor and the detection of multiple drops. In the context of delivering intravenous (IV) fluids, a battery powered handheld monitoring device that includes the source, detector, device body, and processor device may be affixed to a drip chamber included in an infusion set. The device includes a user interface, including buttons, a display, and an audio speaker, for the input and output of information.

  • Publication number: 20170076520
Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for remotely managing access to an area. An access management platform, which can be an electronic lock that is installed on e.g., a door of a house, can enable a user to establish a virtual presence at the door. In one example, a delivery person activates a doorbell button/icon of the access management platform, which sends a message to a smartphone of the owner of the platform. The owner, who is at work, uses his smartphone to initiate a video stream using a camera of the platform, and a two way audio stream. The owner sees and initiates a discussion with the delivery person. The owner uses his smartphone to unlock the door, and asks the delivery person to open the door and deliver the package inside. The owner uses his smartphone to capture his signature to acknowledge the delivery.

  • Patent number: 9595109
Abstract: An object tracking system has an inertial orientation sensor attached to a camera. The sensor uses a rigid body position and orientation (with or without markers) visible to the camera for determining the orientation and the position of the object in the global reference frame, when the camera is not rigidly fixed. Another orientation sensor is attached to the object in order to keep tracking of its orientation when a valid tracking of the object cannot be obtained from the camera. The data from the orientation sensor attached to the object and the data from the orientation sensor attached to the camera is used to increase the accuracy of the optical tracking of the object.

  • Patent number: 9594542
Abstract: A dynamically evolving cognitive architecture system based on training by third-party developers is described. A system forms an intent based on a user input, and creates a plan based on the intent. The plan includes a first action object that transforms a first concept object associated with the intent into a second concept object and also includes a second action object that transforms the second concept object into a third concept object associated with a goal of the intent. The first action object and the second action object are selected from multiple action objects. The system executes the plan, and outputs a value associated with the third concept object.

  • Patent number: 9581618
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for capturing voltage phase angle data on an alternating current power grid. The method includes periodically making a voltage phase angle measurement at each of a plurality of locations on the alternating current power grid relative to a timing reference signal (e.g., a GPS timing signal) that is available at each location. For each of the locations, the voltage phase angle measurements are stored locally at the location. A trigger event is selected that will be simultaneously detectable at two or more of the locations. The method includes monitoring for the trigger event at each of the plurality of locations. In response to detecting the trigger event at one or more of the locations, a select amount of pre-trigger and post-trigger measurements are transmitted over a data communications network to a pre-designated destination from each location at which the trigger event was detected.

  • Patent number: 9581821
Abstract: Compact and low mass augmented and fully virtual head mounted display designs are disclosed. The disclosed displays employ a display located between the eye and the main optical element of the head mounted display. These designs additionally afford the ability to support augmented reality displays because the user can see both the virtual image from the display and the real world if desired. The designs use semi-transparent displays where either the display emits circularly polarized light or the displays which emits light from one surface or the view of the display directly from the eye is obscured.
