Publication number: 20130059107Abstract: A linear series of connected unitary sheet-like merchandise labeling articles, each of which comprises a labeling tag flatly cojoined along a unifying flat bond zone with a flexible elastic layer that extends away from the tag and includes an elastic fastening loop. Adjacent labeling articles of the series are ruptureably connected in a manner permitting the series to be handled as a unit while at the same time permitting ruptureable separation of individual merchandise labeling articles from the series. In one embodiment, the linear series is wound into roll form.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2012Publication date: March 7, 2013Applicant: BEDFORD INDUSTRIES, INC.Inventor: BEDFORD INDUSTRIES, INC.

Publication number: 20110289808Abstract: Disclosed is a unitary sheet-like merchandise labeling article that has a labeling tag flatly conjoined along a unifying flat bond zone with a flexible elastic layer that extends away from the tag and includes an elastic fastening loop. The loop sides that define the loop are wider than the thickness of the elastic layer. Further, the flexible elastic layer that extends away from the tag has a thickness greater than the thickness of the tag and has a dispersion zone adjacent the unifying flat bond zone. The dispersion zone allows dissipation of elastic loop in-line stretching forces sufficiently to reduce transmission of such forces into the bond zone.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2011Publication date: December 1, 2011Applicant: BEDFORD INDUSTRIES, INC.Inventors: Robert B. Ludlow, John B. Linquist, Colin M. O'Donnell, Ryan M. Korpela

Publication number: 20100269386Abstract: A method of forming an elastic labeling band. The method includes covering a central portion of a web of tag material with a release agent, advancing the web of tag material longitudinally and disposing a layer of molten elastomer over the advancing web of tag material, including over the release agent on the central portion thereof. The layer of molten elastomer is disposed over the web of tag material so that the elastomer bonds only to those portions of the web not covered with the release agent. The method includes curing the elastomer to define, with the web bonded thereto, an advancing web assembly, and separating a longitudinal segment from the web assembly to define an elastic labeling band.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2010Publication date: October 28, 2010Applicant: BEDFORD INDUSTRIES, INC.Inventors: Jeffrey Scott Maltas, Ronald G. Patent number: 6279255Abstract: The method of simultaneously banding and tagging merchandise involves forming a plurality of stretchable merchandise marking articles, each being formed to have an endless stretchable elastomeric band and a non-elastomeric flexible water-resistant plastic sheet material combined in a manner such that the sheet material encircles the band and presents an outwardly extending tag having an optically scannable code. The encircling of the sheet material about the band forms a channel within which the band is lodged but freely stretchable. A plurality of such marking articles are placed in condition for ready access for banding and tagging merchandise and an individual marking article of the plurality is removed by gripping the non-elastomeric tag of it.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1998Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Bedford Industries, Inc.Inventor: Brian D. Patent number: 6115993Abstract: The apparatus for intermittently presenting tags for attachment to merchandise has a pay-out tape of tags severable by lines of weakness, drive rollers for intermittently advancing tape from the pay-out roll, breaking rollers that rotate at a greater speed than said drive rollers so as to sever a single tag from the tape at a line of weakness, and holding guide members on opposing sides of a severed single tag for presenting a portion of the tag for attachment to merchandise by a twist tie while temporarily holding the remaining portion between the opposing guide members. A key step of the method is that of presenting a portion of a marking tag in a projecting relationship from the exit of an opposing pair of holding guide members while maintaining the bulk of the marking tag within the opposing holding guide members in a manner permitting easy withdrawal of it, and attaching the projecting portion to the neck of a bag by a twist tie.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Bedford Industries, Inc.Inventor: Colin M. Patent number: 6058639Abstract: The marking tag for banded merchandise has a resilient flat sheet with printed matter on at least one surface and an outer perimeter defining the outer limits of the body. Entirely within the outer perimeter is a pair of openings in spaced relationship and a slit connecting the pair of openings and forming a resilient bluntly pointed tongue in the body. The tongue has opposing straight side portions in an angular relationship greater than 40 degrees and less than 80 degrees and the opposing sides converge toward each other and are conjoined at the bluntly pointed tip. The bluntly pointed tongue is easily temporarily deflected from the plane of the body by finger pressure to readily insert the tip underneath a band about banded merchandise and slide the tongue fully under the band to seat the band in the pair of openings. The tag is thus placed in a substantially flush condition against the banded merchandise.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1996Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Bedford Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lloyd Tinklenberg, John B.
