Abstract: An applicator head is disclosed which accumulates, feeds, cuts and presents a preselected length of ribbon-like material. A first pneumatic cylinder is connected to a pivoting arm which controls accumulation and feeding steps, while a second pneumatic cylinder operates an applicator arm, to cut and present the material. The connection of the pivoting arm, relative to the first cylinder, determines the length of the cut material or ribbon segment.

Abstract: A payout coil of tape for forming substantially instantly openable and reclosable package closures over the flattened mouths of packages in mechanized packaging operations. The tape is a unified structure having a layer of solid non-tacky thermoplastic polymeric material. Optionally, the only layer of a tape may be a polymeric layer; and the polymeric layer may exhibit adhesive properties. Tapes with a backing are preferred, as are tapes which include a layer of adhesive activatable to tackiness at elevated temperatures and remaining tacky at temperatures lower than those at which the polymeric layer exhibits tackiness. The adhesive layer may be separately applied as a hot melt at the time of adhesively fixing the tape to a package. A tearstrip structure is integrally conjoined with and preferably embedded in the polymeric layer, and at least one deformable deadfold strip is also embedded in the polymeric layer.
Abstract: An adapter is provided consisting of a tubular center section and a pair of circular flange sections at each end of the tubular center section. One of the flanges is removable so that coils of tie material such as string, cord, wire, or plastic or paper covered wire and the like can be placed on the adapter and the flange replaced. The tube is segmented circumferentially and can be expanded to tightly engage the inside surface of the coil. One of the flanges floats axially on the adapter and is resiliently biased in the direction of the other flange to tightly engage the side surfaces of the wound up coil.
