The remaining pixels after filtering are grouped based on hue, chroma, and lightness. A dominant color for the digital image is determined based on a color associated with the group that has the greatest number of pixels.

Abstract: A method for forming an acrylic emulsion includes a step of forming pre-emulsion by combining a monomer composition with an amphoteric surfactant in water and then polymerizing the pre-emulsion by combining the pre-emulsion with a radical initiator in a reactor to form a reaction mixture. The monomer composition includes one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of (meth)acrylic acid monomers and (meth)acrylic monomers, and combinations thereof. An acrylic emulsion formed by the method is also provided.

The kiosk is configured to receive an identification code scanned by the optical code reader, determine a product sample associated with the identification code, determine at least one coordinating color for the flooring product based on the product/color database, display a simulated environment including a sample room having at least one selectable surface, display on the display device the at least one coordinating color, receive with the input device a selected color, receive with the input device a selected surface from the sample room, and display on the display device the simulated environment showing the sample room with the product sample and with the selected color on the selected surface of the sample room.

A user device displays room types on a display, receives a room type selection indicating a particular room type, displays phrases having words associated with types of feelings, and receives a phrase selection indicating a particular phrase. The user device accesses a lookup table that associates the room types and phrase with paint colors such that each possible combination of room type and phrase is associated with a subset of paint colors. The user device determines the associated subset of paint colors in the lookup table for the combination of the particular room type and the particular phrase and displays the associated subset of paint colors as recommended paint colors for the combination of the particular room type and the particular phrase on the display of the user device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided and include a computer terminal located at a flooring store that receives a measured color of a flooring product. A server receives paint product catalog information from a computer system located at a coating manufacturer facility, determines paint colors that coordinate with the flooring product based on the paint product catalog information, and runs a paint product ordering application that interacts with a web browser of the computer terminal. The computer terminal receives a paint product ordering web page from the server that enables a user to create an order for a paint product based on a selected paint color and transmits the order to the server. The server receives the order and communicates the order to the computer system at the coating manufacturer facility. The computer system receives the order for order fulfillment, including creating, packing, and shipping the paint product to the user.

Abstract: A method for forming a benzophenone-containing emulsion is provided. The method includes a step of forming a pre-emulsion by combining a monomer composition with a benzophenone or a benzophenone derivative in water, the monomer composition including one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of (meth)acrylic acid monomers and (meth)acrylic monomers, vinyl acetate, aromatic monomers, vinyl neodecanoate, and combinations thereof. The pre-emulsion is polymerized by combining the pre-emulsion with a radical initiator in a reactor to form a reaction mixture that polymerizes to form an emulsion polymer. This procedure implements novel and easily polymerizable benzophenone (meth)acrylates) into the polymer backbone preventing them from leaching out of finished coatings. Advantageously, the benzophenone-containing emulsions can be used to form paint coatings with dirt pick-up resistance while maintaining the excellent flexibility of paint finishes to limit cracking of the final film.
