Abstract: A machine arrangement that operates on a plurality of articles, such as bottles, includes a plurality of machines arranged in a machine arrangement. At least one of the machines includes an apparatus configured to modify the articles by at least one of moving, holding, manipulating and shaping the articles as they pass from an article infeed to an article discharge of the machine arrangement. A recirculation mechanism moves articles from a downstream machine after a first pass (or run) and recirculate the articles back to an upstream machine in a second (recirculation) pass (or run) so that the articles, which are recirculated through the second pass are again subjected to a different machine modifying operation in at least one machine that the articles have previously passed in the first pass. The articles move continuously through the first and second passes while being subjected to at least one machine modifying operation.

Abstract: A trimming turret including a first trimmer head including a first pilot. The turret is configured to receive a stress induced plastically deformed container having earing about a respective opening in the container, and at least one of (i) direct the container to the first trimmer head so that the pilot becomes located inside the opening, and (ii) direct the first trimmer head to the container so that the pilot becomes located inside the opening. The turret is configured to trim off the earing from the container with the first trimmer head.

Abstract: A container machine and method, the machine comprising: an exit track for containers; a primary starwheel holding processed containers and moving the processed containers along a pitch line path toward the exit track; a sorter starwheel positioned adjacent to the primary starwheel and driven in phase synchronization with the primary starwheel; a sorter track for providing a path for containers held by the sorter starwheel; a diverter mechanism to divert at least a selected one of the processed containers on the primary starwheel to a pocket of the sorter starwheel; and a timing device for causing the diverter mechanism to operate while the primary starwheel is rotating at least at fifty percent of production speed and preferably at production speed.

Abstract: A slide assembly for use on a forming turret in a machine line that forms articles, such as cans, comprises a fixed rail, a slide block configured to slide in the rail, and an adaptor that is mounted to the rail. The slide assembly is configured to provide at least a 4.0 inch or more stroke that is stable and minimizes shaking or other movement. The slide assembly is designed such that ends of at least one of the adaptor and rail remain rigid during the stroke operation.

Abstract: A cam follow arrangement has a rectangular-shaped through hole formed in an end portion of a ram member, the through hole having first and second opposed ends and a pair of parallel sides. A slider which is disposed in the rectangular-shaped through hole is configured to be slidable back and forth along the parallel sides toward and away the first and second ends. A spring is disposed between the slider and the first end of the rectangular-shaped through hole to bias the slider toward the second end of the rectangular-shaped through hole.

Abstract: An apparatus for reshaping a container includes a number of reprofiler rollers supported by a mounting block that allows the rollers to travel along a circular path lying in a plane perpendicular to an axis along which the mounting block can be driven by a tooling ram. The mounting block and reprofiler rollers are rotated about the axis by a tooling drive shaft that is supported within the tooling ram. Removable spacers are provided between the reprofiler rollers and the mounting block and between the tooling drive shaft and the mounting block in order to provide a way of adjusting the radial and axial positions respectively of the rollers.
