Abstract: A method for communicating uplink control information to a base station using a user equipment is presented. The method includes identifying component carriers on the user equipment scheduled for Physical Uplink Shared CHannel (PUSCH) transmissions, and identifying at least one first ranking for each of the component carriers for transmission of uplink control information. Each first ranking is at least partially determined by whether the component carrier is configured for delay-sensitive transmissions. The method includes using the at least one first ranking to select a first component carrier for transmission of uplink control information, and encoding uplink control information into the first component carrier for transmission to the base station.

Abstract: A method, system and computer software product for improving rate-distortion performance while remaining faithful to JPEG/MPEG syntax, involving joint optimization of Huffman tables, quantization step sizes and quantized coefficients of a JPEG/MPEG encoder. This involves finding the optimal coefficient indices in the form of (run, size) pairs. By employing an interative process including this search for optimal coefficient indices, joint improvement of run-length coding, Huffman coding and quantization table selection may be achieved. Additionally, the compression of quantized DC coefficients may also be improved using a trellis-structure.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus enable monitoring a mobile data service, and in particular monitoring an operational status of a relationship between a mobile gateway account on a mobile gateway and a mailbox on a messaging server. The operational status may be based on an initialization state of the mobile gateway account on a mobile gateway and a mailbox status of an associated mailbox on a messaging server. In one embodiment, the mailbox status may be determined based on mailbox errors indicative that a mobile gateway is unable to access the mailbox on the messaging server. In one embodiment a mobile gateway detects mailbox errors based on mailbox protocol error messages and sends an error notification to a monitoring system. Also provided are error notifications for facilitating, in a monitoring system, the correlation of mailbox errors with mobile gateway accounts.

Abstract: In a cellular communications network comprising a plurality of transmitting sites wherein each transmitting site comprises at least one antenna, a method of serving a given data stream to a target-mobile terminal, comprising: designating at least two of the plurality of transmitting sites as cooperating sites; assigning tones to each transmitting site from a sub-band associated with the cooperating sites; dividing the data stream into at least two sub-data streams, each of the sub-data streams for transmission over selected tones; and interlacing tones of the cooperating sites in accordance with a selected one of a time switching and a frequency switching transmit diversity technique.
Abstract: Encoding input data includes: generating a first block of coefficients based on a transform performed on a residual block of data for multiple pixels; generating reference information based on a reference block of data corresponding to the residual block of data; and determining losslessly decodable code values representing the first block of coefficients based on the reference information.
Abstract: A method of user authentication on a computing device is proposed, together with computing device on which the method is implemented. In the method a modified base image is overlaid with a modified overlay image on a display and movement of either the modified base image or modified overlay image is responsive to receiving an input starting outside a display area of a touchscreen. Positive authentication is indicated in response to the base image reference point on the modified base image being aligned with the overlay image reference point on the modified overlay image.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer programs for encoding and decoding image are described. In some aspects, an input data block and a prediction data block are accessed. A projection factor is generated based on a projection of the input data block onto the prediction data block. A scaled prediction data block is generated by multiplying the projection factor by the prediction data block. A residual data block is generated based on a difference between the input data block and the scaled prediction data block. In some aspects, a prediction data block, a residual data block, and a projection factor associated with the residual data block are accessed. A scaled prediction data block is generated by multiplying the projection factor by the prediction data block. An output data block is generated by summing the residual data block and the scaled prediction data block.
Abstract: Methods, mobile stations and networks are provided that cause a packet data service reconnect to be performed automatically after the occurrence of an event triggering registration, even in some circumstances where such a data service reconnect would not normally occur. This avoids complications that can arise due to the packet data service being discontinued upon registration and the resulting inability to reach the mobile station.

Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for synthesizing a discrete-valued oscillating signal. Input parameters are provided that are determinative of the frequency, gain, and phase characteristics of the resultant, oscillating signal. The discrete-valued, oscillating signal is combinable with another signal to form a mixed signal of a desired frequency, gain, and phase characteristic using a single complex multiplication operation.

Abstract: A wireless handheld communication device having a housing containing a display screen located above a physical keyboard. The keyboard includes a plurality of physical keys and corresponding indicia. Some of the keys are associated with alphabetic characters corresponding to a QWERTY array of letters A-Z and some are associated with numeric characters 0-9 corresponding to a telephone keypad arrangement. At least some of the keys associated with numeric characters are overlaid on the physical keys associated with alphabetic characters. A microprocessor is included that runs the device in at least a telephony mode, an email mode and at least one additional mode. The microprocessor displays a key-function map on the display screen indicative of enabled functions associated with particular physical keys of the keyboard which are different from any function signified by the indicia associated with the respective particular physical key.

Abstract: A method and a communication device are provided for creating a conference call profile from a communication device, wherein the communication device includes a memory for storing an event record. The method includes: identifying from the event record one or more addresses for communicating with a conference call server; generating a conference call profile having one or more address fields and populating the address fields with the addresses; and storing the generated conference call profile in the memory. A communication device can be configured to perform the method.

Abstract: In some implementations, a method for managing warning notifications includes identifying a trigger event. A status of a setting in User Equipment (UE) to indicate at least one of enablement or disablement of warning notifications in a wireless system is determined. In response to at least the trigger event, the status of the setting for warning notifications is automatically presented through the UE.
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a user with the ability to enter and validate contact addresses when composing a message on a mobile device. The user may access at least one of a local contact address data store and a remote contact address data store when entering and validating contact addresses.
Abstract: A high quality speech is reproduced with a small data amount in speech coding and decoding for performing compression coding and decoding of a speech signal to a digital signal.
Abstract: A mobile device can send a notification to place a call using a PBX (e.g., using SIP signaling) or receive a notification of call availability for the mobile device at the PBX. An authentication token is provided over a data channel for use in authenticating the mobile device when calling the PBX on a voice channel. However, when the mobile device calls the PBX (e.g., on a DNIS number, where ANI information is made available to an application server), if ANI information is found to correspond to the mobile device, the PBX can send tone(s) indicating that the mobile device can respond with an abbreviated validation tone, rather than the entirety of the authentication token. If the ANI information is not obtained or not matched, then a different tone(s) is sent, indicating to provide the authentication token. If the authentication token provided does not match or if the mobile device does not respond, the voice channel is not set up.

Abstract: A power distribution network includes multiple charge storage components and multiple charging circuits to control the charging and discharging of the charge storage components, which may comprise a battery and a supercapacitor. By appropriate arrangement and selection of the storage components, ripple in the power supply voltage, whose propagation to other components relying on the power distribution network may cause an audible buzz, may be significantly reduced. Additionally, appropriate arrangement and selection of the storage components, electromagnetic interference may also be significantly reduced.

Abstract: A narrow-channel transmitter in a dual-radio communication device reduces its bandwidth for the benefit of a wide-channel receiver in the dual-radio communication device. Narrow channels are marked as unavailable based on actual off-line adjacent channel rejection ‘ACR’ information that characterizes tolerance of the wide-channel receiver to adjacent channel interference ‘ACI’ caused by transmissions from the narrow-channel transmitter.
