Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of modifying policy settings in a network having a plurality of subscriber devices. An embodiment includes a plurality of base stations, each capable of wirelessly transmitting across a geographic region. A cell-phone, capable of roaming between regions is operable to establish a wireless link with the base stations. The network contains a communication policy determining from which other communication devices a subscriber device can receive voice calls. A copy of this policy is stored on each subscriber device as a database and periodically updated as the devices make contact with the base stations or other subscriber devices. When receiving a voice call, the device first determines who the originator of the call is and then determines whether it is allowed to receive the call from that originator according to its policy database. The policy database can be updated either by subscriber devices or by base stations.

Abstract: A method of securing user credentials in a remote repository is provided. In accordance with one embodiment, there is provided a method comprising generating a first private key and a first public key pair from a registered password; generating a second private key and a second public key pair; generating a storage key from the second private key and the first public key; encrypting a set of credentials using the storage key; creating a encrypted credential signature from the encrypted set of credentials and the first private key; and storing the encrypted set of credentials, the encrypted credential signature, and the second public key in the remote repository.

Abstract: A method and user equipment for providing channel quality indicator feedback, the method receiving, at the user equipment, a power offset value; measuring, at the user equipment, a channel quality indicator over a reference symbol resource element; and scaling, at the user equipment, the channel quality indicator using the power offset value during an almost blank subframe. Also, a method and network element for coordination between network nodes in a heterogeneous network, the method receiving, at a first network node, load information from at least one other network node; configuring an almost blank subframe (ABS) pattern and a power offset value based on the received load information; providing the power offset value to at least one other network node; and signalling at least one of the power offset value and an ABS threshold value to at least one user equipment.

Abstract: A multi-band antenna comprising a dielectric substrate, a ground plane formed on a first area of the dielectric substrate, a radiation part arranged in a second area of the dielectric substrate where the ground surface is not formed, a feed section formed of a metallic trace and having one end connected to the radiation part and an opposite end disposed near an edge of the ground plane for forming a feed point and the radiation part having a pair of monopole antenna elements formed of conductive metallic traces; a first monopole antenna element for radiating at a first resonant frequency, and a second monopole antenna element for radiating at a second resonant frequency and the conductive metallic traces being folded to form a three dimensional structure, with at least a portion of said first monopole spaced from a plane of the substrate and said second monopole.

Abstract: A system authenticates a user for accessing an electronic mailbox of the user from a remote device and obtaining electronic mail (email). An email server is provided by an email service provider and contains the electronic mailbox of the user. A mobile office platform is operative for accessing the email server and determines if an authentication token is required to access the electronic mailbox of the user. An authentication token is received from the email server or other server if an authentication token is required. Access is attempted to the electronic mailbox of the user using the authentication token. The authentication token is stored for subsequent use by the user to access their electronic mailbox if access to the electronic mailbox using the token has been successful.

Abstract: A system is provided for scheduling for a multicast broadcast single frequency network (MBSFN). The system includes a central control configured to promote a plurality of enhanced node Bs (ENBs) transmitting one or more multicast traffic channels (MTCHs). The one or more MTCHs are provided during a variable scheduling period (SP) and include a data portion that contains MBSFN traffic content and a variable scheduling portion that contains scheduling information related to the MBSFN traffic content.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods may be directed to operating wireless communication resources for a wireless communications system that includes a relay node and a base station. A backhaul link data rate may be identified for a first wireless link between the relay node and the base station. An access link data rate may be identified for a second wireless link between the relay node and a user equipment (UE). The allocation of available resources between the backhaul link and the access link may be adjusted or changed to optimize the allocation of resources.

One example method includes determining that an LTE network is not preferred for voice service provision; storing an identification of the LTE network that is not preferred for voice service provision; and accessing the stored identification of the LTE network that is not preferred for voice service provision.

Abstract: A method of facilitating the entry of text into a new message generated by a messaging application of a handheld electronic device is provided that includes receiving a command to reply to or forward a received message that is included within a message thread, scanning the message thread, identifying a plurality of words in the message thread, generating one or more word lists that include the identified words, and displaying the one or more word lists. The method further includes receiving a selection of a selected one of the words from the one or more word lists, and entering the selected one of the words into the new message. Also provided is an improved handheld electronic device that implements the described method.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for wireless systems provide a mechanism to enhance the communication capabilities of wireless users. In an embodiment, a wireless server downloads media content to a mobile wireless client based on one or more criteria for the mobile wireless client, where the one or more criteria are identified in the wireless server.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method, computer program product, mobile device allowing for configuring a service accessible via the mobile device. The mobile device is configured to allow a determination of its location data using one or more of a plurality of location techniques. The configuring of the service comprises obtaining quality information including a designation of the location technique used for determining said location data and at least partly a quality of said location data; and integrating said quality information at least partly with said service to allow a modification of said service based on said quality information. Various examples of services enabled or enhanced by this capability are described including camera service, navigation services, data sharing services. Various configurations of computer program products, mobile devices and systems for enabling the services above are also described.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for composing an email to be sent by a mobile device is disclosed. A screen including one or more fields for receiving user input to define a content of the email is adapted to expand at least a one of the fields to present additional options to define the content.

Abstract: To facilitate text-to-speech conversion of a username, a first or last name of a user associated with the username may be retrieved, and a pronunciation of the username may be determined based at least in part on whether the name forms at least part of the username. To facilitate text-to-speech conversion of a domain name having a top level domain and at least one other level domain, a pronunciation for the top level domain may be determined based at least in part upon whether the top level domain is one of a predetermined set of top level domains. Each other level domain may be searched for one or more recognized words therewithin, and a pronunciation of the other level domain may be determined based at least in part on an outcome of the search. The username and domain name may form part of a network address such as an email address, URL or URI.

Abstract: A system and method for generating an m-dimensional signature vector in a computing device is provided. The signature vector may be generated from a plurality of key-value pairs, each comprising a unique identifier and an associated non-zero value. Each element of the m-dimensional signature vector is calculated based on a summation of a plurality of terms. Abstract: A method and communication device for determining contextual information is provided. Textual information is received from at least one of an input device and a communication interface at the communication device. The textual information is processed to automatically extract contextual data embedded in the textual information in response to the receiving. Supplementary contextual data is automatically retrieved based on the contextual data from a remote data source via the communication interface in response to the processing. The supplementary contextual data is automatically rendered at the display device in association with the contextual data in response to receiving the supplementary contextual data.

Abstract: Embodiments related to methods and systems for determining support for a memory card, where the memory card is accessible to a card reader and the card reader is in communication with an accessing device. One embodiment comprises transmitting a first test command to the memory card, receiving a response to the first test command, and determining that the response to the first test command indicates that a card type is not supported by a plurality of card drivers. In response to said determining, at least one additional test command specific to a card type supported by a selected card driver is automatically transmitted, and if the response is successful, the selected card driver, which was previously determined not to support the card type of the memory card, is indicated to support the card type of the memory card.

Abstract: Provided are systems and methods for communication protocol mapping. A first computing device uses a first communication protocol while a second computing device uses a second communication protocol. In some implementations, the first communication protocol and the second communication protocol are for different service domains. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, a server is configured to map communication between the different service domains. In some implementations, the first communication protocol is a protocol conforming to Representational State Transfer ‘REST’ and the second communication protocol is a Session Initiation Protocol ‘SIP’. In accordance with another embodiment of the disclosure, a server is configured to map communication between the protocol conforming to REST and SIP, regardless of whether different service domains are involved.

Abstract: A shielded microphone, and method for shielding a microphone, are provided for use in a communications device having a circuit board and a microphone. The microphone is provided in an electromagnetic shield and a resilient separator is provided over the shield. The device housing is stacked over the separator and shield, while the latter are stacked over the circuit board so that the separator and shield, with microphone there under, are sandwiched between the housing and the circuit board. By this sandwiching the separator is loaded onto the shield to drive the shield directly against the circuit board to make an electrical ground connection therewith, the microphone also being electrically connected to the printed circuit board. The resilience of the separator accommodates the variation in the stacking of the components.

Abstract: A method is provided for a UE to receive a MBMS. The method includes, when the UE initiates a handover from a first cell that is providing the MBMS, the UE adding a TMGI associated with the MBMS service to a message sent from the UE to an access node in the first cell. The method further comprises the UE receiving information from the access node in the first cell, the information promoting the UE being handed over to a second cell capable of providing the MBMS.
