Abstract: Sound absorbers and airframe components comprising such sound absorbers are disclosed. In one embodiment, an airframe component comprises an aerodynamic surface (48) and a sound absorber (38). The sound absorber (38) comprises a perforated panel (40) having a front side exposed to an ambient environment outside of the airframe component and an opposite back side. The panel (40) comprises perforations extending through a thickness of the panel for permitting passage of sound waves therethrough. The sound absorber (38) also comprises a boundary surface spaced apart from the perforated panel. The boundary surface and the back side of the perforated panel (40) at least partially define a cavity in the airframe component for attenuating some of the sound waves entering the cavity via the perforations in the perforated panel (40).
Abstract: An aircraft table configuration includes a first table section and a second table section. The first and second table sections are hingedly connected along a first hinge line so that the second table section is configurable between a deployed, opened position and a folded, closed position. The first table section presents a first angled side and the second table section table presents a second angled side. The first angled side defines a first angle with respect to the first hinge line, and the second angled side defines a second angle with respect to the first hinge line. The first angled side and the second angled side are opposite to one another on either side of the first hinge line, wherein the first and second angled sides are adapted to define an aisle width in the aircraft. The aisle width does not change between the open position and the closed position.

Abstract: A system for detecting mechanical failure of a connection between a variable differential transformer and a controlled element. The sensor system includes a variable differential transformer with a housing encapsulating a first coil, a bore in the housing, wherein the bore is adjacent to the first coil, a core disposed in the bore, a shaft connectible between the core, at a first end, and the controlled element, at a second end, and a biasing element connected to the shaft. Responsive to a break in the shaft, the biasing element moves the core to an out-of-range position detectable by at least the first coil.
Abstract: A method of and a system for presenting an operating status of an aircraft engine. The method comprises accessing a first indication indicative of a position of an aircraft engine start switch and accessing a second indication indicative of an aircraft engine start operating mode, the second indication having been generated based on an analysis of a parameter associated with an operating condition of the aircraft engine. The method, upon determining that the position of the aircraft engine start switch is an “on” position and the aircraft engine start operating mode is a healthy start causes the display of a visual indication indicative of the healthy start. The method upon determining that the position of the aircraft engine start switch is an “on” position and the aircraft engine start operating mode is an abnormal start causes the display of a visual indication indicative of the abnormal start.

Abstract: There is described herein a method and system for inspecting various fabrication features of composite components, such as tow/ply location, angle deviation, and gap size, using a laser-vision assembly. In some embodiments, a tolerance for that fabrication feature is provided as an inspection feature and a laser projecting device projects the inspection feature onto the material. Alternatively or in combination thereof, a calibration feature is projected onto the material, the calibration feature comprising known dimensional information. An image acquisition device acquires an image of the material with the inspection/calibration feature(s) projected thereon. The images can be analysed automatically or manually to detect whether the fabrication features are compliant and/or to obtain measurement data of the fabrication features.

Abstract: A method and device of positioning a ply of material for a composite component along an arcuate surface are presented. The ply comprises two end portions and a plurality of fiber tows extending longitudinally between the two end portions. The arcuate surface has a curved edge and a planar surface extending from the curved edge. The method comprises placing a first longitudinal edge portion of the ply along the curved edge; and rotating at least one of the two end portions away from the arcuate surface about a pivot axis normal to the ply, so as to cause sliding of at least some of the plurality of fiber tows relative to each other, and substantial aligning of the plurality of fiber tows in a curved direction along the arcuate surface. A method of positioning a ply of material for a composite component onto a curved mandrel is also presented.

Abstract: A bracket for forming a wire harness assembly prior to installation to a structure of a vehicle includes a conductive body adapted to attach the bracket to the vehicle, an interface portion adapted to attach at least one wire of a wire harness to the body, and at least one ground connector attached to the body. The interface portion is conductively insulated from the body. The at least one ground connector is adapted to electrically connect the wire harness to a ground. A method of forming a wire harness assembly for installation to a structure of a vehicle is also presented.
