  • Patent number: 4288693
Abstract: The cross sensitivity of a two-beam infrared gas analyzer is eliminated by using two differently long cells for the measuring gas in the two beam paths and by using an interference filter at least in the beam path containing the longer cell; the filter, however, does not filter the entire beam in that path.

  • Patent number: 4283848
Abstract: A dryshaver has a beard cutter and a drive which powers the same. The dryshaver also has a long-hair trimmer and a fist slide on which the trimmer is mounted and which is movable to and from an operating position in which the trimmer is operatively coupled with the drive to be powered by the same. A switch is provided which controls the supply of electrical energy to the drive, and a second slide--mounted on or in the first slide for movement relative to the same--has a projection which activates or de-activates the swtich in dependence upon the movement of the second slide.

  • Patent number: 4284168
Abstract: A loudspeaker enclosure for use in housing loudspeakers, the loudspeaker enclosure comprising a casement having a generally rectangular cuboid shape, the casement including three layers. A first layer and a second layer comprise sheets of metal and are space apart to provide for an inner layer of plastic material. In one embodiment of the invention, the casement is formed by bending a sheet of material including the three aforementioned layers to conform to a generally rectangular cuboid shape. In another embodiment of the invention, the first layer of metal is bent to a rectangular cuboid shape defining four interior surfaces. A flat layer of plastic and a flat layer of metal is applied to each interior surface of the casement. The casement provides a wall having a relatively high density, a high modulus of elasticity and a high damping factor.

  • Patent number: 4281248
Abstract: The cross-sensitivity of a two-beam infrared gas analyzer is reduced by using two differently long cells for the sample gas in the two beam paths. The path with the short sample gas cell is intercepted by a detector cell having highly absorbing wall while the detector cell in the other path is highly reflective, e.g., made of gold. The two detector cells are interconnected by a differential pressure chamber with capacitive pickup.

  • Patent number: 4266783
Abstract: A control mechanism for raising, swinging and lowering the pick-up arm of a record player comprising a disc having an arcuately shaped depression in the periphery thereof. The contacts of an electrical contact sensor switch are located in the disc peripheral depression and bridging of these contacts will cause generation of a first command signal for the control mechanism. Devices for generating second and possibly third command signals are associated with the disc which may be rotatably mounted.

  • Patent number: 4262415
Abstract: A hair trimmer has a shear blade assembly mounted in a frame and composed of a stationary blade and a reciprocating blade which slides on the stationary one. One or more biasing springs are interposed between the frame and the reciprocating blade to urge the same into proper contact with the stationary blade. A pivoted lever is interposed between the spring(s) and the reciprocating blade and serves to divert the biasing force to particular portions of the blades, such as the cutting edge, where it is needed while at the same time relieving other portions so that overall friction between the blades is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4259702
Abstract: A cassette tape machine has a cassette receiver in form of a drawer which pulls out from the front panel of the machine, so that the cassetts may be placed into it from above in flat condition even if the top surface of the machine itself is inaccessible. The capstan drive, preferably a direct drive, is mounted in the cassette receiver, immediately below the cassette nest, so that no variations in the tape speed--resulting in wow and flutter--are introduced by the need to transmit motion to the capstan from a remote location of the drive.

  • Patent number: 4255806
Abstract: A display for an electronic timepiece or the like has an analog electro-optical display comprising a plurality of segment electrodes radially disposed about a center point and at least one first counterelectrode each bridging at least two radial segment electrodes and a digital electro-optical display comprising a plurality of digital electrodes which define at least one alphanumeric character and at least one second counterelectrode. By using at least two first counterelectrodes each having a different set of radial segment electrodes associated therewith and electrically connecting at least one radial segment electrode of one set in parallel with one radial segment electrode of the other set and in parallel with one digit electrode, the display may be driven in a time multiplex manner with a minimum number of external display connections.

  • Patent number: 4234836
Abstract: When the user presses a touch-activated switch a first time, a first digital storage device becomes set and furnishes a platter-motor-start signal to the control electronics of the platter drive motor. If the touch-activated switch is pressed a second time, the first digital storage device becomes reset, and the signal commanding that the platter drive motor operate terminates. A second digital storage device likewise assumes its set and reset states in response to the first and second pressing of the touch-activated switch. Sensors ascertain various operating conditions during the course of turntable operation, such as the swinging of the tone arm to the position corresponding to the lead-in groove of a phonograph record. The states of the digital storage devices are additionally dependent upon the conditions sensed by the sensors. Logic circuitry interprets the combinations of states of the digital storage devices and causes the requisite turntable operations to be performed, e.g.

  • Patent number: 4230907
Abstract: The dynamic loudspeaker is comprised of a speaker housing and a front sound panel. A diaphragm is mounted at the front of the speaker. A moving-coil unit is mounted in the speaker and includes a moving coil coupled to the diaphragm for transmitting oscillatory motion thereto. The moving-coil unit when in operation generates heat to such an extent as to tend to limit the rated steady power at which the loudspeaker can be operated without damage to the moving-coil unit. This limiting tendency is counteracted according to the invention by improving the dissipation of the heat generated by the moving-coil unit. The speaker housing or a surface portion thereof and/or the speaker sound panel or sound wall or a surface portion thereof is comprised of a material having a thermal conductivity W equal to or greater than 40 kcal/m-h-.degree.C. A heat-transmitting structure is comprised of a material likewise having a thermal conductivity W equal to or greater than 40 kcal/m-h-.degree.C.

  • Patent number: 4227254
Abstract: A radio receiver receives a transmitted high-frequency signal which is mixed within the receiver with a local-oscillator-frequency signal to form an intermediate-frequency signal, which in turn is converted into an audio-frequency signal. A plurality of indicator elements are arranged in a row to form a quasi-analog channel indicator, each indicator element of which is associated with a respective one of the selectable channels. A multi-channel oscillator furnishes the requisite local-oscillator-frequency signals for tuning-in the available channels and furthermore controls the operation of the indicator elements of the quasi-analog channel indicator.

  • Patent number: 4220415
Abstract: An analyzer such as a two beam infrared analyzer is assembled in building block fashion and includes a radiation source module and a detection module tied together by rods and in optical alignment with each other. Intermediate or "cell"-modules are hung on the rods and all adjacent, interfacing faces of the several modules are constructed for indexing, preventing lateral deflection when the fastened rods hold all parts together.

  • Patent number: 4214149
Abstract: The housing of a blow dryer has a slender handle shaped to be held in the hand and formed with a pair of windows on the back side, and a large head formed with an outlet. A blower motor is mounted in the handle and carries a fan in the head which blows air past a heater through the outlet. A control circuit housed in the handle is connected to a pair of control elements mounted rotationally on the motor casing and operable through the windows at the back of the handle. One of these controls varies the motor speed and the other establishes the output temperature. The two adjustment members are rotatable about the motor axis, with the temperature-adjustment member formed with teeth connected to a gear carried on a potentiometer and the motor-speed adjustment member connected via an axially extending finger to a motor-speed switch.
