  • Patent number: 7485103
Abstract: A hinge assembly for a knee brace includes a screw seat, a screw seat gear, an adjustment screw, a condyle engagement member, and an adjustment actuator gear. The screw seat has a bore with an internal thread. The screw seat gear is positioned at an end of the screw seat and the screw seat rotates in response to rotation of the screw seat gear. The adjustment actuator gear engages the screw seat gear and the screw seat gear rotates in response to rotation of the adjustment actuator gear. The adjustment screw has an external thread that is threaded into the internal thread of the screw seat, thereby enabling outward or inward telescoping of the adjustment screw within the bore in response to rotation of the adjustment actuator gear.

  • Patent number: 7309333
Abstract: A portable medication delivery system enables a patient to elect slow continuous auto-administration or rapid bolus self-administration of a fluid medication. The medication delivery system has an infusion pump, which includes a fluid storage chamber and a spring-driven piston positioned in the fluid storage chamber. The fluid storage chamber is initially charged with the medication and the infusion pump automatically delivers a continuous dosage of the medication at a first flow rate over a long time from the fluid storage chamber to a treatment site in the patient. A bolus injector is positioned in series or in parallel with the infusion pump and is charged with a bolus dosage of the treatment fluid from the fluid storage chamber for alternate manual self-injection of the medication into the treatment site at a higher second flow rate for a short time.

  • Patent number: 7163521
Abstract: An integrated infusion and aspiration system includes a flow control system and a catheter assembly. The catheter assembly includes an infusion catheter and an aspiration catheter, each having ports located at the distal end of thereof. The distal ends of the catheters are separated so that the aspiration catheter ports can be positioned on an opposing side of a surgical wound site from the infusion catheter ports. Methods of operation of the integrated infusion and aspiration system provide for uninterrupted aspiration with concurrent controlled delivery of an infusion solution such that the infusion solution is substantially evenly dispersed of over the wound site.

  • Patent number: 7108664
Abstract: A continuous passive motion device is provided having specific application to rehabilitative treatment of the elbow or shoulder. The device includes a motorized winch displacable in a first or second direction, a cord suspended from the winch by a variable extension length, which increases when the winch is displaced in the first direction and decreases when the winch is displaced in the second direction, and an arm harness associated with the cord. An arm of a patient is suspended from a suspension point on the cord and the motorized winch is activated to alternately displace the winch in the first and second directions, thereby providing a plurality of repetitive treatment cycles. Each treatment cycle moves the suspension point and correspondingly the elbow or shoulder from a lower treatment limit to an upper treatment limit and back to the lower treatment limit.

  • Patent number: 7060045
Abstract: A knee orthosis is provided having upper and lower arms and a hinge assembly positionable about the knee to one side of the patella. The hinge assembly has a hinge pivot and a tension strap lever. The upper and lower arms and tension strap lever are each rotatable about the hinge pivot. A compression member is positioned in engagement with the knee on the opposite side of the patella from the hinge assembly and a tension strap is connected to the compression member and the tension strap lever. The tension strap applies a tension force to the compression member which increases when the upper and lower arms and tension strap lever rotationally transition from a flexion position to an extension position and decreases when the upper and lower arms and tension strap lever rotationally transition from the extension position to the flexion position.

  • Patent number: 6936019
Abstract: A strap connector assembly for an orthopedic brace has a retention post, which has a post cross-sectional dimension, and a chamber, which has a retention aperture. The retention aperture is bounded at least in part by a flexible segment and has an aperture cross-sectional dimension less than the post cross-sectional dimension when the flexible segment is unstressed. However, the aperture cross-sectional dimension is substantially equal to the post cross-sectional dimension when the flexible segment is stressed by the retention post. The retention aperture, flexible segment and retention post cooperatively enable a user to selectively connect or disconnect a strap to or from the orthopedic brace while maintaining the adjustment of the strap.

  • Patent number: 6719728
Abstract: A portable, patient-controlled medication delivery system includes an infusion pump and a catheter assembly. The infusion pump retains a treatment fluid and provides a drive mechanism for delivering the treatment fluid to a patient via the catheter assembly. The infusion pump includes a fluid reservoir, a dosage chamber, a displacement piston displacable within the dosage chamber, a charge flowpath providing fluid communication between the fluid reservoir and the dosage chamber, and a passive flow restrictor positioned in the charge flowpath. An elastic member is also positioned in the infusion pump to exert an elastic displacement force on the displacement piston, which expands the dosage chamber and draws the treatment fluid from the fluid reservoir into the dosage chamber at a charge flow rate controlled by the passive flow restrictor.

  • Patent number: 6719713
Abstract: A strap attachment assembly for an orthopedic brace has an anchor mounted on an orthopedic brace component and a strap retainer mounted on a strap. The anchor has a retention post and a retention head and the strap retainer has a body and a retention plate. The body includes a chamber and the retention plate includes a retention opening aligned with the chamber. The retention opening is sized to releasably receive the retention head when the retention post is positioned in the chamber. The retention plate is transitionable between a locked condition and an unlocked condition. The inner boundary of the retention opening blocks displacement of the retention head therefrom in the locked condition and is clear of the retention head to permit displacement of the retention head therefrom in the unlocked condition.
