  • Patent number: 9369206
Abstract: Embodiments provide systems and methods for enabling the support of multiple Ethernet Passive Optical Network over Coax (EPoC) channels, which can be bonded together into a single high-speed channel. The multiple EPoC channels can be configured according to available spectrum, such that they occupy one or more, frequency contiguous or separated, segments of the available spectrum. The size (number of sub-carriers) of each of the channels can be configured according to embodiments based on the available spectrum and/or other requirements (e.g., EPoC emission requirements, existing services, etc.). Further, within each channel, individual sub-carriers can be configured independently, including turning each sub-carrier on/off and/or specifying the symbol bit loading for the sub-carrier independently of other sub-carriers in the channel.

  • Patent number: 9369978
Abstract: A mobile device receives a signal, from a base station, comprising a primary synchronization sequence (PSS) and a secondary synchronization sequence (SSS). The mobile device utilizes two different sampling rates to perform the PSS synchronization and the SSS detection individually. For example, the mobile device synchronizes to the received PSS at a first sampling rate such as 0.96 MHz, which is determined based on the PSS transmission rate and/or the length of the received PSS. The mobile device detects the received SSS at a second sampling rate such as 1.92 MHz, which equals to the sampling rate for an analog-to-digital conversion at the mobile device. The received PSS and associated symbol timing are detected through the PSS synchronization to support the SSS detection. The detected SSS is used to acquire cell-specific parameters such as cell ID. The acquired cell-specific parameters ensure proper communications between the mobile device and the base station.

  • Patent number: 9362866
Abstract: A communication device, such as a smart phone, includes an envelope tracking power supply modulator. The envelope tracking power supply modulator receives an envelope tracking reference signal. A baseband controller pre-distorts the envelope tracking reference signal responsive to distortion caused by the envelope tracking power supply modulator. For instance, the pre-distortion may modify the nominal envelope tracking reference signal so that, after the modulator acts on the modified reference signal, the output of the modulator has increased linearity.

  • Patent number: 9363517
Abstract: An encoder may implement an indexed color history that stores color values for previously encoded pixels. The encoder may obtain a current pixel or current group of pixels for encoding and determine whether to encode the current pixel using the indexed color history. In doing so, the encoder may compare a color value of the current pixel with color values of the previously coded pixels to determine whether the current pixel is sufficiently similar to a previously coded pixel color value, e.g., by satisfying one or more similarity criteria. When the similarity criteria are satisfied, the encoder may encode the current pixel as an index value referencing the entry in the indexed color history storing a color value that satisfies the similarity criteria. When the similarity criteria are not satisfied, the encoder may encode the current pixel using another encoding method or technique.

  • Patent number: 9363116
Abstract: Embodiments provide an area, cost, and power efficient multi-service transceiver architecture. The multi-service transceiver architecture simplifies receiver/transmitter front ends needed for a multi-service architecture, by replacing significant portions of multiple receiver and/or transmitter front ends with a single ADC and/or DAC, respectively. In embodiments, a plurality of received service contents are combined into one composite analog/RF signal and applied to an ADC. The ADC converts the composite signal into a composite multi-service digital signal. Digital techniques are then used to separate the plurality of service contents into a plurality of respective digital streams that each can be independently demodulated. Similarly, in the transmit direction, a plurality of digital streams, including a plurality of service contents, are combined into one composite digital signal.

  • Patent number: 9362940
Abstract: A parallel sample-and-hold circuit includes a sampling switch and a hold capacitor for each of the ADC and MDAC of a converter stage for a pipelined ADC. Each sampling switch couples the analog input of the first converter stage to its hold capacitor at the time a sample is desired to be taken. After the sample is placed on the hold capacitor, the sampling switch is opened and the hold capacitor stores the sample. To compensate for mismatches in the signal paths of these sample-and-hold circuits, a compensation switch is further used. The compensation switch couples the terminals of the hold capacitors together, creating a parallel sample-and-hold circuit. The compensation switch is controlled such that it is closed after the sampling switches are opened to equalize a voltage of the samples.

  • Patent number: 9356616
Abstract: A multi-bit per cycle successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) may sample an input signal, successively approximate the sampled signal with a shrinking sub-range containing the signal, and output coarse digital codes corresponding to the sub-range. A sub-ranging stage may continue quantization over the sub-range by sampling and interpolating between a pair of zero crossing signals that bound the sub-range. The zero crossing signals may be taken from the SAR preamp output. The sub-ranging process may be pipelined recursively in multiple stages to increase throughput and efficiency.
