Patent number: 8537753Abstract: A mobile device of a user discovers topological information about electronic devices in a premise environment, and shares such information with a media gateway. The media gateway uses the topological information to augment content from a server, such as a web page that supports access to media content, to add graphical objects corresponding to those electronic devices in proximity to the mobile device that are capable of reproducing the streaming media content. Selection of the one of the add-on graphical objects causes delivery of the media content to the corresponding electronic device instead of the display of the mobile device. In this manner, a more natural selection mechanism than that available using conventional pull-down lists of options is provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2011Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Philippe Klein

Publication number: 20130235722Abstract: Certain aspects of a method and system for a power control based on application awareness in a packet network switch are provided. Data communication flow may be monitored in ports in a packet network switch based on packet classification. Ports where data flow is not detected may have at least some functionality disabled to reduce power consumption. In this regard, a power saving mode may be utilized for disabling at least some functionality in a switch port, such as Ethernet ports, for example. A partially disabled port may be fully enabled when monitoring detects active data communication flow in that port. Port functionality may be enabled or disabled sequentially, for example. In some instances, a physical layer portion of the packet network switch may be utilized to adjust power in a port based on the data communication flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2013Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: MARTIN LUND

Publication number: 20130238915Abstract: A method and device that intelligently suppresses reporting of an “in-service” condition to the application processor in a mobile station when the mobile station experiences low received signal strength. When the mobile station's application processor is in a power-saving mode, an in-service condition is not reported to the application processor until certain conditions are met. Delayed reporting of the in-service condition will help prevent a toggling effect (or “ping-pong”) of reporting an in-service condition immediately followed by a not-in-service condition. Because the application processor can remain asleep until a sufficiently reliable received signal is available, suppressing reporting of the in-service condition helps prevent unnecessarily waking-up the application processor, and thereby reduces battery consumption.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2012Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Anand Devidas Kashikar

Publication number: 20130234788Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed to compensate for gate leakage currents of thin oxide devices that have very thin oxide layers in a current mirror of a digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The DAC converts a digital input signal from a digital representation in a digital signaling domain to an analog representation in an analog signaling domain to provide an analog output signal. The DAC uses one or more transistors to convert the digital input signal from the digital representation to the analog representation. These transistors are typically implemented using thin oxide devices that have very thin oxide layers and corresponding gate leakage currents that are associated with these very thin oxide layers. The current-steering DAC provides these gate leakage currents independent of its corresponding, reference source without any substantial affect upon its full scale output.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2013Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ovidiu BAJDECHI, Tom W. Publication number: 20130238847Abstract: A disclosed embodiment is an interruptible write block comprising a primary register having an input coupled to an input of the interruptible write block, a secondary register having an input selectably coupled to an output of the primary register and to an output of the secondary register through an interrupt circuit. The interrupt circuit is utilized to interrupt flow of new data from the primary register to the secondary register during an interrupt of a write operation, such that upon resumption of the write operation the secondary register contains valid data. A method of utilizing an interruptible write block during a write operation comprises loading data into a primary register, interrupting the write operation to perform one or more other operations, loading the data into a secondary register while loading new data into the primary register, and resuming the write operation using valid data from the secondary register.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2013Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventor: Christopher Gronlund

Publication number: 20130235953Abstract: Embodiments provide transmitter topologies that improve the power efficiency and bandwidth of RF transmitters for high transmission power applications. In an embodiment, the common-emitter/source PA of conventional topologies is replaced with a current-input common-base/gate PA, which is stacked on top on an open-collector/drain current-output transmitter. The common-base/gate PA protects the output of the transmitter from large output voltage swings. The low input impedance of the common-base/gate PA makes the PA less susceptible to frequency roll-off, even in the presence of large parasitic capacitance produced by the transmitter. At the same time, the low input impedance of the common-base/gate PA reduces the voltage swing at the transmitter output and prevents the transmitter output from being compressed or modulated, In an embodiment, the DC output current of the transmitter is reused to bias the PA, which results in power savings compared to conventional transmitter topologies.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2013Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Ray (Ramon) GOMEZ, Leonard Dauphinee, Massimo Brandolini, Jianhong Xiao, Dongsoo Koh, Young Shin, Chonghua Zhong, Reza Rahman Khan
